Perhaps I should have changed the title of this post to "The Americans Who Stayed At Home". That's really where this all lies. In the aftermath of the election, I was reading some posts on Facebook and came across one from someone I am related to. He and his wife shall remain nameless, but what they posted troubled me greatly. They basically congratulated President Obama for his victory and then wrote that they were proud of the fact that they did not vote. I could not believe what I was reading. How can any American citizen not have the desire to exercise the voice granted us by the United States Constitution? How can any American citizen not have the desire to vote in our electoral system?
I couldn't let that pass by (probably should have), so I commented that they should be ashamed of themselves. You know, with my usual discrete tactfulness. I was quickly informed that it was not an obligation that Americans vote. That if it were an obligation, it would not be freedom. Of course, they are technically right. It is a freedom of choice, whether we choose to vote or not. I responded that they were throwing away the sacrifices already paid so we could have that freedom and they said it was still their right and we would have to agree to disagree. I left well enough alone and did not respond, but my mind has been rolling, trying to get a handle on the attitude I saw displayed.
We all know many elections have a very small turnout. In an election of such importance, one would think that Americans would want to voice their opinion in the most powerful way available, but that is not the case. Mitt Romney received fewer votes than did John McCain. Barack Obama received fewer votes than he did in 2008. Do the majority of Americans simply not care about the direction of our country? I do not know the percentage of Americans who are actually registered to vote, but according to voting statistics that were certified early this year, there is a gap of 60 million people between the number of Americans who are eligible to vote and those who are not registered. There is a difference of over 15 million people between the number of Americans who are registered to vote and those who choose not to vote.
Some of these people are not doubt, disillusioned by the system. Many of them probably believe that it does no good to vote. Some of them probably do not care, as long as they are not troubled from their busy schedule. Almost 18% of those who choose not to vote cite conflicting schedules. With the number of ways we have to vote in America, that is a shame. There are also those who did not vote on November 6 because they did not like the choices. That is their privilege, but it does not take away from the fact that many of them chose not to make their opinions known by voting.
Where does that leave our country? I firmly believe America would not be in the shape it is in, if the people who should be voting actually exercised that right and voiced their opinions at the ballot box. We can complain about the system all we want, that it does not good to vote, but it would make a vast difference, if more of us came out to vote. For that, we have no one to blame but ourselves.
fed up of ur side even some on here saying our side did not turn out.
WE FRIGGING DID,. It’;s not that hard to look at these results closer and see that the results are not adding up.
Precints wiht 100% turn out
all the votes from counties go to obama and never one vote to Romney.
votes down for obama but union votes go up 5%
I know what I saw and heard and I know for a fact there is no way that our side did not turn up but hey WE HAVE MANY ON OUR SIDE WHICH FALLS FOR THE MEDIA’S TALKING POINTS, r because they refuse to look into these results much more closer.
I’M SICK OF OUR SIDE ALWAYS LYING DOWN FOR THE LEFT AND THEIR CHEATING , only Col Allen Wwest has the balls to take the left on and is doing so and the GOP has not even backed him up
How to fix this, easy get this media to do their job or boycott them and their sponsors and mail them every day.
Nothing wll happen because talk radio for the most part, FOX and talking heads have pals on the left and don;t want to upset their pals or they don;t want to be targeted off the lefts media
I'm a computer programmer (45 years).
It is a trivial matter, maybe 4 - 5 lines of code, to insert into a program statements which simply discard or ignore every 10th Republican vote.
Where were the votes counted? What computer system? Who managed that computer system?
Was the counting program secure? Was there an audit trail, that is a simple check of actual votes submitted versus total votes counted/reported?
These are important questions.
I bet if you find the answers to them you will discover that somehow George Soros was involved in the counting programs.
I know damn well our side did turn out, one only has ot lok at these results to see they do not add up.
Look at my state right now who are still counting, there is a reason why the Dem counties will not report their true numbers right now and that is because they want to know how many votes obama needs and so they wait for other areas to report and then they can report more numbers.
Allen West has found that republican votes have not been counted as this recount is being done.
Our side is too lazy and will say well it;s the welfare
it;s our side never came out
even the Romney haters will be ut on here now and say he was a bad candidate.
Fact is he was nto a conservative but trust me I know what I saw, who I talked to, crowds, even spoke with a SS guy who said republicans had much bigger crowds
No we have far too many which listen to either talk radio or the media and just report what they hear
Pray for them?
We need to line them up for a B-slapping contest.
the GOP should have got some balls and stopped this madness and also demanded a recount in WI, FL, OH, PA, VA

You don't disenfranchise the absentee ballots of service personnel for the second election in a row.
I smell a rat. It looks remarkedly like a democratic systemic attempt to win the election through fraud and deceit. The fix was in.
I demand a recount in Florida, Ohio, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
Just once I'd like to see someone in the Republican party step up and demand the truth...instead of bending over and saying, "Could I have another, Sir?"
There should be some jail time for those who screw with our election process. If we don't have honesty in our elections then our votes mean nothing. Those with the plan to defraud do, and they will rule. Our republic is lost.
Fewer Republicans voted in 2012 than in 2008? Not on your life.
He had an opportunity to bury Obama after the first debate and he let him off the hook.
Honestly, at the time no one thought it would be necessary. Everyone with half a brain thought that with all the crap going on there’s no way people would actually vote for Obama.
I’m just as guilty as everyone else. I was thinking a Reagan 1984 moment was going to happen.
I thought that everyone else could see how big of a joke -0- was and he would only get 26% of the vote.
I think the average IQ in the US is around 75 now.
I was no fan of Romney trust me but I voted to get rid of obama and the voters voted him in , not me though I wanted Newt.
After this rigged election I can now say he ran a decent campaign, he had to fight the media and massive lies from the left.
I know first hand from others, from what I saw, to how people felt that this state did not go to obama, looking at the other states like WI, PA, VA, OH, then these results did not add up.
Fact is if there was an investigatio or a recount wiht names checked ten we would have Romney instead of obama but hey most on here and our side want to talk about we did not come out [media’s talking point] to just move on and lets with with the left
I agree with you on the fraud part.
But, i also know Repubs who voted for the Ron Paul wannabe Johnson. I know folks that refused to for for a mormon (but a muslim by default is ok) and skipped the election.
Sorry, but those jokers need a sound slap upside their brainless skulls.
Boehner, or someone, needs to demand a recount. This does stink to high heaven.
Mitt Romney received fewer votes than did John McCain Sarah Palin There. Fixed it.
I also agree with many posters in this thread in that I don't believe the numbers. No way Republicans turned out three million less voters. This was massive election fraud. We now live in the most expensive banana republic on earth. Voting in national elections is pointless from here out. Time for Americans to take a different path.
Mitt Romney received fewer votes than did John McCain.”
Mitt Romney received fewer votes than did John McCain Sarah Palin There. Fixed it.
how about
Mitt Romney had less votes counted.
we know republican votes have not been counted along with massive voter fraud because Col Allen West has got his recount and seen first hand that votes on our side were nto counted
I do NOT believe that Romney lost fairly. This election was stolen.
I guess that is fair since Democrats think that Bush stole the election from them twice. Every election the person who lost always calls it fraud. I predict that in 2016 if the Republicans win, Democrats will be saying how we own the electronic voting and tamper with the machines because as you know they are Republican owned or so they believe. lol. It is always funny to see the other side claim the same thing election after election. It is pretty humerous and predictable.
I think the folks who stayed home believe the whole system is corrupted.
I’m not entirely sure they are not wrong.
Romney was thrust on us.
In what is one of the stangest coincidences in history????
That is, the whole RomneyCare issue. Not to mention his support for gay issues and abortion.
Don’t forget how Romney (Oh, his handlers) steamrolled over all the conservatives to get where he got.
While the politically hardcore are ok with that the lesser hardcore were probably turned off.
Did Romney invite Palin to speak ever?
If I had to guess I would say that may be the largest percent of the stay at home folks.
It wasn’t just a matter of rinos vs conservatives but rather being included and not excluded which they basically were.
I don’t blame those that stayed home. I blame Romney (and his people) who didn’t seriously include them.
If they were not important than why is everyone boo hooing that they stayed home?
You seem to have forgotten the more conservative candidates the GOP attacked in cooperation with the liberal media that many did not get a chance to vote for. He became the defacto candidate as the others were run out of the race. He was not elected by reason of popular vote - he was at or below 30% in the primaries.
Mitt Romney was chosen mainly by crossover votes. He was chosen by the other side as the one that Conservatives would most likely not support...and so was the one most considered not able to take the election over Obama.
The strange thing is...how many polling places couldn’t close on time due to LONG lines? How many places have 110% voter turnout? Did you catch that? 110% of the population voted...where is the other 10% from? How is it possible that Romney got LESS VOTES than McCain with such long lines? Why is it that Romney was winning the polls the day before and yet lost so easily Tuesday? Why is it that Allen West won by 2000 votes and hours later 2400 votes were FOUND that took that away from him? Those 2400 votes found were ALL for the other man...not one person in 2400 voted for West? This is crazy, it’s unreal, it’s FRAUD!
difference though.
one only has to look at the results to see they do not add up in WI, PA, FL, OH, VA
One has to be an idiot to not see that thess results are not adding up and West right now is finding out that republican votes were not counted
I am sick of your crap too.
Mitt Romney was chosen by the Republican primary voters. He was more appealing to the majority of voters than any of the others. He became the candidate by reason of popular vote. Period.
Barack Obama was chosen by the Democratic Primary voters. He was more appealing to the majority of voters than any of the others. He became the candidate by reason of popular vote....Period. He also won the electoral College and Popular vote by the majority of voters. PERIOD. See how fun that is. Does it make it right? NO. So having Romney was the WORST scenario possible.
