from Wikipedia:

“Iowa’s population is more urban than rural, with 61 percent living in urban areas in 2000, a trend that began in the early 20th century.[59] Urban counties in Iowa grew 8.5% from 2000 to 2008, while rural counties declined by 4.2%.[72] The shift from rural to urban has caused population increases in more urbanized counties such as Dallas, Johnson, Linn, and Polk, Scott, at the expense of more rural counties.[73]

Iowa, in common with other Midwestern states (especially Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota), is feeling the brunt of rural flight, although Iowa has been gaining population since approximately 1990. Some smaller communities, such as Denison and Storm Lake, have mitigated this population loss through gains in immigrant laborers.[74]”

If it is ANY indication, Iowa USED to have 8 Congressional Disticts, then 6, then 5, now 4. Young People get a BELLYFULL of the BULLSH*T that Des Moines, Ames, Waterloo, The “Quad Cities”, Iowa City and Ceder Fall put out and LEAVE. I am SERIOUSLY thinking of telling my ENTIRE “Home State” to KISS MY A$$ and moving(back) to either Nebraska, or Oklahoma or Texas. I HATE THIS DAMN STATE sometimes!

“Rural areas are generally much more conservative” not my “Home” County in Iowa(Boone). Boone County Iowa is EXTEMELY Liberal!

99% was an exaggeration.. But you kind of proved my point. More city dwellers, and urban voters tend strongly to dem.

I don’t know. I live not too far from the IA border in MO, and I’m ready to put up a barbed wire fence at the border. Except that those counties nearest me are the red counties. It’s the Des Moines metro area and the quad cities that suck. If the country ever splits, they’ll be stuck in the USSA.

Iowa is 88% non-Hispanic white. Northern states with a high percentage of whites in the population tend to be very liberal. Iowa is sort of northern and sort of midwestern, below Minnesota and also borders Illinois and Wisconsin.

And farm subsidies also probably play a part.

Iowa’s population is increasing.
Iowa’s rural population is decreasing.
Iowa’s urban population is increasing.
Iowa’s under 35 age group population is increasing, and doing so in urban areas.

But then, isn’t this also true in other farm belt states?

And then...

Iowa: “According to the 2010 Census, 91.3% of the population was White (88.7% non-Hispanic white), 2.9% was Black or African American,....”

Nebraska: “According to the 2010 Census, 86.1% of the population was White (82.1% non-Hispanic white), 4.5% was Black or African American,.....”

Look at the county map. Eastern Iowa voted DEM. The rest was Republican. 62 Republican counties and 36 Dem counties. Farmers are notorious for voting AGAINST their own self interest. At least, that has been the case in my lifetime.

Having lived in Iowa for over 16 years I can give some perspective. The politics of Iowa follows the demography. Iowa is a rural small town state with some big exceptions. Des Moines in the middle of the state is an island of liberalism. Des Moines has a strong blue collar union presence and lots of liberals. Ames (IA State), Iowa City (U of IA) and Cedar Rapids(U of Northern IA)are typical liberal college towns and are smaller islands of liberalism. Small town IA tends to be conservative, but at least my wife's small town IA relatives bought into it's George Bushes fault big time and I suspicion that is the case in other parts of rural IA. IA had GOP governors for 25 years, then picked a couple of Democrat losers and has re-elected Terry Branstad as governor after he previously served as Governor for about 16 years. IA members of Congress tend to be GOP with one big exception Sen Tom Harkin. Harkin appeals to the progressives, gets total union support and is the darling of liberals, socialists and communists. He panders to farmers to get votes in rural areas. Time was when rural IA had enough population to offset the liberal islands, but with dwindling rural populations the liberal islands tend to dominate.

What could swing more voters to the GOP ticket would be first anything that panders to the farmers...like the ethanol boondoggle, high unemployment..not currently the case in IA or high energy costs. Obama's EPA has already sent drones to spy on farms looking for "pollution" violations and a proposed carbon tax on cow and pig farts would be the last straw for the rural folks. High gasoline and especially diesel prices hit the rural areas hard and any increase in energy costs would be felt state wide. The college town liberals would be unswayed by whatever Obama does. Des Moines is a big insurance town and Obamacare will be felt hard especially if major employers like Principal Insurance drop out of the health insurance business.

Iowa has a lot of universities. They have a good deal of that “intellectual snobbishness” going around.

Because Iowa is very Christian Conservative and they stayed home yet again and did not show up for Romney nor for any of the down ballot candidates who had been compromising their principles to go along with the narrative that Romney was a conservative.

Cause farmers talk a bigger game about being Conservatives than anyone else you will ever meet.

Until you threaten to cut their particular subsidy. Then it’s Katy Bar the Door.

When Democrat Tom Whitney ran for governor of Iowa, he was heard to say, “If they gave Iowa an enema, it would go in in Clinton County."

Same TV and public education-—transmission of ideas (all Marxist ones). All states are becoming socialist, immoral hellholes where Logic and Reason can’t penetrate because of indoctrination in the formational years of childhood.

Families used to transmit their religion and ideas to the young. Now we allow perverted strangers like the Billy Ayers to shape our worldview of our children—in public school system and TV. BK Eakman and Charlotte Iserbyte and many others note the Wundt psychology put into curricula to make the children “think” one way.

Disinformation-—as the ex-KGB Yuri stated in the 70’s-—was already in public schools for two generations (John Dewey) and destroying the ability to recognize Truth if it slapped them in the face. (Irrational ideologues—indoctrinated when young—can’t ever understand Logic). They live by emotion and are easily led into “group think”. That is how public schools work====teach One Way to Think-—the Marxist way-—sodomite/occultist/Satanic way so God is Killed-—planned by the Fabians in the late 1800’s.
