Fiscal cliff is the popular shorthand term used to describe the conundrum that the U.S. government will face at the end of 2012, when the terms of the Budget Control Act of 2011 are scheduled to go into effect.Among the laws set to change at midnight on December 31, 2012, are the end of last years temporary payroll tax cuts (resulting in a 2% tax increase for workers), the end of certain tax breaks for businesses, shifts in the alternative minimum tax that would take a larger bite, the end of the tax cuts from 2001-2003, and the beginning of taxes related to President Obamas health care law. At the same time, the spending cuts agreed upon as part of the debt ceiling deal of 2011 will begin to go into effect. According to Barron's, over 1,000 government programs - including the defense budget and Medicare are in line for "deep, automatic cuts."
This was signed into law by Barack Obama on August 2, 2011.
Republicans should allow this to take effect. All of it.
democrats should understand what they elected. Obama supporters should reap what they have sown.
Among the bright spots is the AMT.
Unless Congress acts by the end of the year, more than 26 million households will for the first time face the AMT, which threatens to tack $3,700, on average, onto taxpayers bills for the current tax year. Because those people have never paid the AMT, they have no idea they are in its crosshairs put there by a broader stalemate over tax policy that has kept Congress from limiting the AMTs reach.
The Obama administration was a week late with its Sequestration Transparency Act, which was supposed to detail where budget cuts would fall:
Sequestration would impose cuts of 9.4 percent in nonexempt defense discretionary funding and 8.2 percent in nonexempt, nondefense discretionary funding. A 2 percent cut would hit Medicare providers, 7.6 percent would affect other nonexempt nondefense mandatory programs, and 10 percent would be applied to nonexempt defense mandatory programs, according to the report. Cuts in the range of 7.6 percent to 8.2 percent would affect everything from the Capitol Police to the Merit Systems Protection Board to the States Interagency Council on Homelessness.
Amusingly, Obama said the law he signed into effect "will not happen."
When Gov. Mitt Romney pointed out the devastating $1 trillion in cuts set to hit our military via sequestration, Obama stated flatly, "[those] cuts will not happen."
Obama is pledging that he will ignore a law he signed into effect.
Interesting.
democrats will now expect Republicans to bend over to Obama's will.
Not. Gonna. Happen.

I’m ALL for those rich Dems who voted for this Socialist pig to get EXACTLY what they deserve..they love Socialism so much..fine..I am all for them paying their “Fair share” take 70 percent of their wealth, just like in France..they want to live like France, its about time they learn what Socialism REALLY is
Obama gets everything he wants when we go over that cliff.
Higher taxes and cutting the Military so his pals in Russia can be happy with bhim.
Flexible??? He wont have to be, the miitary will be crippled.
It’s going to happen sooner or later. Might as well let it happen now. I also hope it hits all those idiot Latinos that voted for 0 the hardest. Let it be a lesson to those idiots.
Obama is pledging that he will ignore a law he signed into effect
I think a show cause hearing in front the the supreme court would be in order if he does that. When he refuses to honor the rule of the court, put him in some dungeon till he does. That way he is still president and there is no impeachment proceeding. Remember when Nixon was forced to spend money he tried to sequester. Dems took him to court and won....back at you.
Its time to burn down the house.
Have the house pass a budget that balances the budget by cutting all welfare and executive office functions other than the military. Then leave town. Period. Just leave.
There are many things that I will not say in a public forum from this day until I have my freedom back. I now consider myself a member of the Old Republic and an active part of the resistance.
The GOP will cave.
We’ll get a tax increase on the “rich” to avoid the cliff.
Perhaps it will be far better for conservatives in the long run if Zero is at the wheel of the bus as we drive off the fiscal cliff.
I don't know what Flopping Aces finds so interesting about that. Obama's refused to enforce Federal Laws, and court orders these past 4 years, and nobody's said boo about it.
Don’t vacation in, or have conventions or business meetings in, Democrat states. I don’t live in Texas, but it looks like a nice place to vacation at. Same with Mississippi and Alabama. Don’t buy GM or Chrysler vehicles. The big city people are feeling pretty smug. Let them eat concrete.
Not. Gonna. Happen.
Wanna bet? Boner the Caveman will crumpled like a house of cards. Again.
Their curse: “may all your dreams come true!”
I say give the American people what they voted for. Tax increases, higher insurance premiums for worse care, high unemployment, high food cost, high gasoline prices and a military that couldn’t win a paint ball war.
This is not my American anymore. I may go to the Veteran’s parage on Sunday and salute the flag one last time. Then turn my back when the float with all the politicans come by. Then again, I may just go get some free food.
Agreed. Was thinking something similar looking at the county by county red/blue maps. Rural Americans need to strike hard. If the Coastal Mega-Cities and other Urban enclaves dictate our future to us, then starve them to death. Why shouldn’t food producers/distributors be wealthy?
Whoever controls the spice, controls the universe.
Stop all fiscal bills in the house zero passes!!!
I will be watching a lib aquaintance that has a small business and always crying about insurance they don’t have. But they can take vacations and go gambling. She can’t wait for the free health care. Little does she know, they will be paying for it and have to get it for their uninsured kid who doesn’t have it.
I’ll just watch.
Obama’s campaign was simply a lie. He lied about Romney, he lied about his own record, and he lied about what he would do in the new term. I hope all who foolishly voted for a lie can get used to the idea that there will not be any more truth in governance. NOTHING said or reported will be reliable, at least if it comes from this government. We have no way of knowing just what is factual, and what is contrived. This is the cost of mendacity. Obama simply cannot be trusted, and so nothing he will ever again say can be trusted. His supporters need to realize this, the sooner the better.
Actually, obama’s election might be a blessing in disguise. With the democraps in control of the senate and white house, they will ultimately be blamed when the country collapses financially. Riots will break-out when the money stops flowing (aka. Greece), and all the obamabots who voted for him will be marching on the white house and capital. What a delightful sight that will be...but at a terrible cost to the country. This will in turn finally drive a stake through the heart of all the democrap libs.... paving the way for true conservatives to come in and pick up the pieces. Might this be the end of the democrap party for a generation?
