Here we have a perfectly nice image of Stanley Ann Dunham sitting in a chair, with zero perched on the arm of that chair beside her. What could possibly be wrong with this image? Take particular notice how nice and polished the timber of the arm of the chair is, and how decoratively it is made...and btw, it's a CHAIR not a COUCH.
Let's take a closer look in black and white, shall we?
Notice how her hair had to be partially removed on one side to accommodate his shoulder? Maybe it's a genuine image, maybe his arm really is that long...
Look what happens next, they haven't moved a muscle; suddenly a baby appears:
And then we have a partial view of the 'family on the couch' we have all become accustomed to...but the baby, although it hasn't moved a muscle either, is now sitting off-centre, and little zero is sitting beside Stanley Ann Dunham. Makes you think...wow, how did they do that?
But it's not until you see the final composition it all starts to come together, here's the chair turned into a couch, with the arm of the chair now painted in because the image was damaged when zero sat on it and they removed him from when it was a chair, extended now - to accommodate a man who was probably photographed sitting in that same chair on a different occasion - and it's happy happy Soetoro family.
