Flashing back to 2011, I was rather unenthusiastic about the slate of candidate, and to be perfectly honest, I was hoping that Gov. Palin was going to step into the fray, but I certainly had one criterion I was not going to budge on one inch: absolutely NOT Mitt Romney.
Why? Because Romney is the Republican Bill Clinton -- someone who will say or do whatever it takes to get votes. Someone for whom getting the office was important than what he'd do once he got there. Admittedly, Romney was above Clinton's alley-cat morals, but that was the only nice thing I could really say about him. Also, Obamabacare was where Obama was most vulnerable, and Romneycare would neutralize that issue (as indeed, it pretty much has).
And the thought of him being the GOP nominee? Well, I swore that the GOP would not get my vote if that were to come to pass.
Of course, we all saw how the primaries played out -- the establishment GOP rallied behind Romney, and every potential challenger was shot down one by one until no one was left standing (although Ron Paul never quit, but continued raving into the wind). And I reaffirmed my vow not to vote for Romney.
Now, in large part, I have that luxury, as I live in a deep blue state. If Maryland is competitive that my vote matters, Romney is already winning with 400+ EV. So unlike others, I have the ability of voting my conscience without any risk of effecting the outcome.
So why have I changed my mind?
Simply put, Obama. With two diametrically opposed visions for America on display, I cannot bring myself to not vote against Obama. Leaving the line blank or going with a third party fails to send the message that I agree with Romney's stated vision, even if I'm unsure I trust Romney to fulfill it.
In either case, when I walk out of my polling station on Tuesday, I'm going to feel dirty. So, if I'm going to feel that way anyway, why should I do anything other than the less selfish choice. My singular vote, my lone voice, of course does not matter, but there must be many others like me. Join with me and cast an affirmative vote against Obama by voting for Romney. Then go home, take a shower, get drunk, whatever it takes to get over the disgusted feeling, and start thinking of ways to hold our elected officials to their conservative promises.
In short, I don't like Romney.
I don't trust Romney.
But I will vote for Romney. Join me.
Romney is there man, and they support him 100%. He will help them get rid of the detested Obama, so even if he agrees with Obama on the issues, they support him. Conservatism is now defined as being anti-Obama, and all the other elements of conservationism. Romney said he didn't want to go back to "Reagan/Bush," and he has completely unreaganized the GOP. In a few years, Reagan will probably be looked back upon very unfavorably by Republicans. And there probably will be very little protest when Romney signs the nationwide same-sex marriage law.
No.
I guess you like to wait until the tsunami is right onj top of your head? Let me guess, you voted for Obama, and then came to regret it afterwards?

It makes no sense to complain and whine after something’s done. By then it’s too late. No sense in complaining AFTER Romney signed a crippling tax increase and AFTER you lost your job because you don’t support same-sex marriage. Then you are going to come whining to me. I’ll try to look sympathetic.
Amen
I speak for myself . I don’t love Romney. I don’t hate him either. He is a moderate. He is also an experienced businessman . We need someone like that to start cleaning up the mess before it gets worse. I will gladly vote for Romney to get rid of Obama.
YUP. More than regret, I would guess.
I have no doubt that will be the case and I don't expect you to remember...
Which sets us all up again for the next time, when we will be served a sh*t burger and a puke sandwich yet again, whereupon we (you and I, and a few others) will be told once more that we are fools for not taking a big ol bite of the puke sandwich...
And so it goes.
LOL. Whatever you say, FRiend.
I mean, really now, even if there was a snowball's chance such crap could reach the House floor, ... OH WAIT, let me guess, executive order? Stop, yer killin' me.
If he did do it, by executive order, who would stop him? Reid? Pelosi? You have to be kidding. But most likely he’ll just call Boehner and get it passed. The Dems are not going to stop them, no matter what you think.
If Romney is so moderate, why is he trying to cover up Benghazi? In the third debate, he deliberately tried to avoid the issue. Why would a moderate or conservative do that. Even McCain wouldn’t have done that.
No worries there...
LOL. What kind of nonsense is that? Why would I think Dems would try to stop anyone from doing that?
But most likely hell just call Boehner and get it passed.
Yeah? When? Is there some HUGH, SERIES conspiracy afoot in the U.S. House? Or, is Boehner planning to spike the Capitol's water supply with some super secret powerful Kool-Aid?
Again, Willard knows he's not in Massachusetts anymore. What has you so convinced he's hell-bent on ruining any chance for a second term? Oh, it's all just part of the HUGH, SERIES conspiracy, right? He's made a pact with Obama to move FORWARD with Obama's second term, is that it?
Gosh, I guess I might as well vote for a real conservative, rather than waste my vote on Romney. After all, there's no real difference between him and Obama, right?
I really like your explanation. It totally makes sense, and pretty much explains what’s wrong with the left. It’s too bad their idealism makes some of them so hateful. I do not hate (well, I used to be able to say that until Obama came along) anybody. But sometimes their opinions really confound me.
So all those people bearing witness that he is a good man are all liars? Fire Obama.
If you know that, why are you pretending he's so great? The main difference is Romney can destroy conservatism in the GOP. Which he told group he would do.
I DON'T know that. I'm mocking those of you who DO think there's no real difference between Romney and Obama.
This isn't just some inconsequential choice between socialism and socialism-lite. This is MARXISM vs CAPITALISM and I'll choose CAPITALISM EVERY ****ING TIME even if I have to crawl over hot coals and broken glass to do so.
Personally, I can't imagine there's ever been a clearer case for voting to defeat any national candidate in our entire history. I believe any who can't see that are dangerously out of touch with reality.
GOP House will do what the president wants. Remember under, Bush, GOP House thought they were Tip O’Neill. The House will deliver whatever Romney wants.
