I’m really upset. I’d like to see an explanation for why things were better in past election years. If the amount the freepathons bring in is not enough to keep thousands on the site for really big nights, it takes all the fun out of FR. There could never have been a thread on 9/11. If anything big happens this place will no longer be there for us. I donate to have it here. I donate because I want to rely on it. I can’t. So I am rethinking donating.
I would love an explanation of what the problem is, what it will cost to fix it, and other ideas like why couldn’t we have a chat room for big events? I only want to donate if there is a chance we could be here on big nights. Otherwise it’s just not the central conservative forum. It’s a forum for slow news days only.
What Yaelle said. To the third power.
The system is not handling the increased loads and we do not know why yet. John says the system is not getting overloaded, the db is not overloaded, the cpus are mostly idle, the load averages are low, the db load averages are low, just reaches a point where throughput stalls. I’m not a techie and I have no idea how to fix it. I thought maybe we could add another server or more RAM or replace some older servers or something, but I guess John doesn’t think that will do it. There’s something wrong in the system software or the configuration but he’s having trouble finding it.
And I’m really upset too, but there’s not a freaking thing I can do about it until John gets it figured out.
Thanks.

Yahoo has chat rooms but not sure if FR has one set up, but there is an alternate site there. Been a long time since I used Instant Messenger or whatever it’s called on Yahoo now.
Thank you for so well stating exactly what I was thinking but could not post. Jim has responded, much appreciated, but it appears to be a mystery problem.
Dear Jim,
I do not recall when FR went to CSS style pages vs straight HTML but I have read of CSS bugs severely slowing page loads.
If you went back to HTML page construction the database would not be affected and then you could make a “Please ignore” post and we’d hammer it for testing purposes.
Happy to help ... ;-)
