Growing up I was always confused by what I heard and read about the power of Almighty God. As children who experienced devotions after supper, faithfully attended church and Sunday School, I was awed by the exciting stories and a little terrified too. The Bible is full of violence and harsh realities.
True stories about brave soldiers of Christ fighting against incredible odds for their God. Cruel kings, jealousy stemmed plots foiled, cities wiped out, plagues, evil spirits and so on. The most captivating of all were the teachings on prophesy giving gruesome pictures of whats to come. As a little kid it left me morbidly fascinated with a somewhat distorted image of God. My church taught far more about the Sovereignty of God rather than a loving God.
Age appropriateness is paramount. Being an overly sensitive child I felt compelled at a young age to start warning the other kids on the playground about the consequences of their sins. I didnt have a lot of friends early on
So when verses were incorporated in sermons about fearing God, I took it quite literally. Here is an example: Revelation 13:7 He said in a loud voice, Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of judgement has come. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of water.

“Fear of the Lord is the beginning of Wisdom.”
For any naysayers that do not believe in God I challenge you to read and watch the following information about the 6 Day War in Israel in 1967 and this only one of innumerable occurrences where He has intervened to save someone’s life, health or both:

As an 8 year old in Sunday School hearing our teacher say that in heaven we might be singing praises to Jesus for the first 10,000 years did not make me happy. I could not sing very well. So after a little while I held up my hand and said I didn’t want to go there. Boy, did I cause a stir. LOL... Now, I know that beloved teacher was teaching about eternity but then the singing part was what I could grasp.
The fear of The Lord was also difficult. I remember thinking about being afraid but it was too late for I already had the love of The Lord in my heart.
This is the day!
Shame and fear bring us to Him. But, it is His love for us that keeps Him seeking those who do not know him, even those that have rejected Him. John 3:16
Once you have truly accepted Christ as your Savior, faith overcomes all fear. Even if I die, I am merely removed from this decaying old shell.
We are not to worry about tomorrow. We just serve for today and accept whatever comes our way.
Let those who have eyes see, and those with ears hear.
