Alexander Haig:Let's face it. The Falkland islands are thousands of miles away, not many of your people there, of no social or economic importance...
Margaret Thatcher: Like Hawaii, you mean?
Yup. Wars are started over such things.

This ia an attempt at naked aggression on China's part. The Senkaku Islands have never been claimed or recognized as being under China's sovereignty until now, when the potential for seabed oil and natural gas emerged. The Chinese are simply threatening to steal the islands and the resources, plain and simple. No surprise there.

We're obligated by treaty to come to Japan's defense in the face of a foreign attack.
Will Obama honor that treaty? The Chinese appear to be betting not.

China probably has thousands of mobiles that can launch missiles to accurately hit any part of our country. The warnings about that were out from a congressman over ten years ago (only followed the bits and pieces of knowledge for a year or so, warning that 300 or so of those were scheduled to be built long ago).
We’ve had a do-nothing defense maintained by both political parties for decades.
