A Sense of Urgency

Posted on 09/24/2012 10:44:13 AM PDT by Trapped Behind Enemy Lines

We hear it every fours years: This is the most important election of our life time. This year it really is. Most experts and pundits are predicting the election will be very close coming down to a small handful of swing states. There has been a rash of polls released in recent days mostly from media outlets showing Obama opening up a small lead. Almost all of these polls are overweighted in the Democrats's favor using models based on 2008 exit polling data showing that registered Ds outnumbered registerd Rs 39% to 32% on election day in November 2008.

Here is something I have noticed: The public visibility of the Tea Party is noticeably less pronounced right now than it was at this time two years ago just before it scored its sweeping victories in the 2010 midterm elections. Not exactly sure what their strategy is other than the fact they do seem to be quite active on the social medis front based upon the regular postings I see on my Facebook page.

Trapped behind enemy lines, living in an extremely liberal city (L.A.), in deep blue state, I would not expect to find a lot of Tea Party activity or Republican enthusiasm at any event. One Saturday afternoon a few weeks ago I walked into the Pasadena GOP HQ, and there only a couple of people in the place. Someone told me they were phoning voters in swing states. And then I thought to myself: No wonder we never win elections in CA, we don't even try, many of our local volunteers are helping get out the vote in other states.

The good news this; Four years ago at this time CA in general, LA in particular was at the epicenter of Obamamania. It seemed as though every other car had an Obama bumper sticker on it. This year very few cars have them, and I'm on the freeways every day driving through the heaviest of Democrat neighborhoods. Very few Obama yard signs up as well. I am not saying Obama is going to lose CA, but this much I can say without any hesitation whatsoever: The level of outward and public displays of enthusiasm for Obama in Southern CA and LA is dramatically below what is was four years ago. In fact it is virtually nonexistent.

You would think that with 23 million Americans unemployed, 82 million abled bodied Americans not working at all. The lowest labor participation rate in the workforece since the Great Depression. Average family income down $4000.00 from four years ago, gas prices at all times, one in six living below the poverty line, 47 million on Food Stamps, record numbers of people getting on permanent Disability after their 99 weeks of unemployment insurance has expired, and worst of all, $16 trillion national debt which basically means that the nation is already effectively bankrupt. Without the Fed's periodic purchases of our government debt securities, the economy would have already collapsed under its own weight. If James Carville's famous dictum, "it's the economy, stupid" still holds water, you would think Obama would be down 15 or 20 points right now. Obama is in fact bankrupting the nation. Do people realize that???? Or is $16 trillion such an astronomical figure that it numbs the mind and no one really understands the true magnitude of such truly horrifying numbers?

In California at least there doesn't seem to be any sense of urgency about any of this. Either among the pro-Obama or the anti-Obama forces. I suppose this is a good sign in a deep blue state like mine. I hope it is true in all of the far-Left leaning states. Californians have watched the Democrats bankrupt their state for decades now. Do they want to preserve the status quo?

And what should I do? Go into the GOP Party HQ and phone bank in other states? I would prefer contacting friends and neighbors in my own area as opposed to making out of state contacts. I really do feel an intense sense of urgency that I never felt before, not even in 1980. I thought Carter was bumbling and inept, I never felt that he wanted to radically tranform the nation. I felt Clinton was corrupt and morally depraved, but there was the GOP controlled Congress which kept him in check.

This year IS different. EVERYONE must go and see 2016 and encourage others to see it. The survival of the nation is at stake now. Obama doesn't care about the deficit. He will raise taxes. He will veto any efforts to repeal Obamacare. THERE CAN BE NO GREATER SENSE OF URGENCY THAN SEEING TO IT THAT HE IS DEFEATED. Period. Every talking head on TV like Bill Kristol needs to realize this. We don't have the luxury of nitpicking our candidates to death. Of course none of them are perfect, but they are VASTLY superior to the ones who currently hold office. Now is the time to circle our wagons and close ranks.

I will do whatever it takes. Wring a check. Volunteering at HQ. Putting up a yard sign on my front lawn, putting a bumper sticker on my car. WE CANNOT AFFORD TO LOSE THIS ELECTION. If Obama is allowed to cement the policies of his first term into a second term there will be no turning back. You got that Peggy Noonan???? You used to be a speech writer for Ronald Reagan. You should know better. Of course Romney will make some mistakes on the campaign trail. And the MSM will be all over them like flies on dog poop. But it is now time for us to close ranks and get the job done NOW, or it's over, Obamanation is here to stay and will never be undone.

If it was so important, why did a lackluster candidate win the primaries because not enough people were energized to vote in them? Whether Romney wins or loses depends on how many more or fewer people hold their nose to vote for him. He is better than Obama, but is that good enough for enough people? We will find out in November.
