Dobson Blasts 'Viscious' GOP Opposition to Akin
Conservative Byte ^ | 9/17/2012 | anon

“I regret to say that Congressman Akin has been subjected to disgraceful treatment at the hands of the GOP political bosses,” Dobson said. “They have withheld funds for his campaign, even though he won the GOP primary for the Senate seat. Karl Rove and Haley Barbour have said things about his character that are untrue. Their vicious opposition could get his Democratic opponent elected in his stead. That is curious since an Akin win could give the Senate majority to the Republicans.”

This is not about Akin, its about what he said. He’s a decent man and a good conservative, but he cannot win this race. It was over the moment he opened his mouth and inserted both feet. He is perhaps the only person in the State of Missouri who cannot beat McCaskill.

His refusal to recognize the political reality of the situation will cost the Republicans and the conservative a seat in the U.S. Senate and perhaps control of the Senate. That’s why the party is mad at him.

In order to win, he must do the following:

Capture all of the conservative vote. He will do this, with the exception of some women who cannot forgive him for his remarks.

Capture the Independent vote. You can’t get elected with just conservatives on your side, you need a good chunk of independents as well. He won’t get these folks.

Do OK among women. Again, women are not going to vote for him, especially the soccer mom types in suburban St. Louis and Kansas City

Keep McCaskill from getting all of the youth vote. No hope here, the youth vote will go almost entirely to McC.

So, bottom line, he cannot win. This is not about conservatives abandoning him, or about the Republicans destroying a strong pro life candidate. People who understand how elections really work know that he won’t get to 51% and all of the caterwauling from the religious right is not going to change it. Missouri will get another six more years of the abortion queen, McCaskill.

Like someone should take what a TV preacher says seriously. I’ve seen Elmer Gantry. Dobson is just about as credible AFAIC. Akin is going to lose, and the sooner you dwindling little band of socons understands that and gets that idiot out of the race so we can win the seat. But these boneheaded fundies would rather back their holy martyr than win the Senate

You didn't know that freerepublic is a Socon, "fundie" site, as you call them?

Shouldn't you let socon Jim Robinson know that you want the "dwindling" socons gone from FR?

No, Dr. Dobson - it was his comments and his refusal to get out of the race that will keep McCaskill in place. He was, after all, McCaskill’s choice.

I don't admire him for Bush's wins.

He managed to turn what should have been two walk off wins into an extra inning affair and a late inning comeback.

Vastly overrated as a political strategist.

No, winning is everything.

Fine, you go ahead and win without this "boneheaded fundie socon".

The victory prize you're after is what I'm fighting against.

He was not the choice of Republicans - he was the choice of Claire McCaskill and the Democrats. Without them he would not have even been on the radar - she spent millions to assist him in getting the nomination apparently with good reason.

If this scandal was contained only within the state of Missouri, you might have a point - but it was not. It became a national issue used to brand all pro-life conservatives and blunted the momentum we were clearly building going into the convention and overshadowed it. Akin’s conduct and refusal to take responsibility and step aside for the sake of the credibility of the issues he claims to care so much about has caused an extraordinary amount of damage which makes the task all the more difficult.

Are you insinuating the voters of Missouri are so stupid they would elect a man because he was “chosen” by Claire? show me the stats on the monetary donations she made.
Akin has won numerous elections in Missouri. people across this state from Kansas City to St Louis to Springfield to Joplin voted for him. You know why? because of his conservative record in congress...he makes Romney look as liberal as Ted Kennedy.
You want to talk about gaffes? have you read some of Barbour's? and Rove can go rot in hell. He is nothing but a power hungry freak

McCaskill and the Democrats were betting that the Republican Party was rot-through with cowards.

Fact is Akin beat out two strong candidates. Are you saying because Bush didn’t get a decisive victory against Gore he should have been a lame duck president? what if Romney barely wins? and btw..I doubt you know very much about Akin or you would not be calling him stupid. He is more than a socon..he is also fiscally conservative.

Just popping in to say that all the anti-Akin $#!^ you guys consistently spew has convinced me to vote for Akin, and has me thanking God that most of you guys have no say in the matter.

If you think Akin should drop out, screw you. I want McCaskill OUT OF OFFICE. And I don't believe it would be a stretch to say a vast majority of Missourians feel the same as I do.

People are not going to think "Oh, Todd Akin said something really dumb. WELP I'd better go vote for McCaskill!". What Akin said is NOT going to change the fact that McCaskill is UNPOPULAR and many Missourians want her GONE.

And again, thank God most of you are not voting here.

HEADS UP FReepers - please note there is no such word as VISCIOUS! I’m sorry to be so snippy - but this misspelling drives me nuts (nuttier;)

It’s vicious = spiteful

or

viscous = sticky

I happen to be very pro-life.

And Catholic.

My catechism says evangelicals are wrong and practice the protestant heresy.

Weird post, but it doesn’t explain why you are denigrating and mocking social conservatism and the Christian base of the GOP.

You didn’t know that freerepublic is a Socon, “fundie” site, as you call them?

Shouldn’t you let socon Jim Robinson know that you want the “dwindling” socons gone from FR?

And Catholic.

I am Roman Catholic, but evangelicals and SOCONs are closer to my faith than the GOPe or mittens.

If you wish to lose, please continue alienating the base.

I knew there would be attacks on Dobson by the msm but am a little surprised that freepers would go after him for merely speaking the truth.

You’re like that annoying little girl in the first grade who was always tattling to the teacher.

I’m mocking no one except myopic single-issue voters who cannot see the bigger picture because of the “holy mission” they see themselves on.

This election is about jobs, defense, and the economy. Its not about abortion or gay marriage. A candidate’s views on abortion are irrelevant anyway since only the overturning of “Roe” will stop it. It takes about 80 years for the SCOTUS to fix its mistakes and there’s another 35 years or so to go.

I want the GOP to gain control of the Senate. This has national implications, its not just a Missouri problem. Akin isn’t going to win because of his thickheadness, and he’s going to cost us the Senate because of his narcissism.

Wake up and smell the coffee.
