The Cleveland Browns' 34-27 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals Sunday carried a lot of lessons for this young team, some positive and others maddeningly predictable.
The Browns' two key rookies, QB Brandon Weeden and RB Trent Richardson, showed marked improvement in their second outing, giving a much-needed boost to an offense that floundered last week against Philadelphia.
But the absence of CB Joe Haden on the defense allowed the Bengals to pick on the Browns' young secondary.
Combined with mental lapses, poor tackling and heavy penalties, the Browns just couldn't keep up.
Here are five lessons from the Week 2 Battle of Ohio:
LOL! Well I still hang onto the Browns LOL
Maybe they should change their name to “The Blues”
I live in Cleveland but I’m from Cincinnati.
Go Bengals!
Tomorrow will be a fun day at work!
My take
Weeden looked good. Very good decision making. He spread the ball around. Good improviser on several broken plays.
Trent Richardson is a beast. Plain and simple.
From a Browns standpoint there is a lot they can build off of from this game.
They need to continue to get Richardson the ball any way possible.
They saw a few things they need to work on and one of them is deep cover. Several plays that I saw the safety’s looked like they were indecisive and hung their corners with no help over the top. The first long touchdown looked like that’s what happened.
Open field tackling. The punt return and the other long touchdown looked like a 10 yard pass and 40 yards of missed tackles.
I hope you guys beat the Steelers and the Ravens.
Gawd I hate the Stealers and Ravens!
Sassin Frassin mutter mutter...
Who Dey!!!
Sassin Frassin mutter mutter...
Oh and Cincinnati aint in Ohio, it’s in Kentucky LOL
Most likely the economy.
considering how old Weeden is i say he’ll be eligible for medicare before the Browns are ever a .500 football team...
LOL- the stands in Miami are always 1/2 full...i believe they have been one of the league leaders in blackouts the past ten years...i’ll never forget being in the area in January, 1991 when they had made the playoffs and the radio announcers begging people to buy playoff tickets so the game would not be blacked out...
after Los Angeles, Miami is THEE worst sports city in the country as far as supporting their teams....
Oh yes I remember when I used to live in Ohio if the bengals won and the Browns lost it was great to come into work on monday morning (sometimes singing 'oh what a beautiful morning'). Of course if it was the other way around I kept a low profile walking into work.
I will listen to Triv tomorrow on WTAM.
Bums be out that I can no longer listen to games via KTAM on the internet. :(
Wait. Why isn’t Bernie Kozar playing?
Bernie is a great guy.
Ray Mancini too.
