No problem. I just thought they might. I have heard of such a thing at Sniper’s Hide.

“Now that’s just silly. Who the hell needs to shoot arm chairs?”

>>> I hope the Secret Service doesn’t see that as a veiled threat against the president.

He said ‘arm chair,’ not ‘empty chair.’ ;0)

That Subsonic is perfect for the AR-15 .22 kit. I use this ammo and it's like
a whisper in the AR with the flash suppressor. Try it if you have the kit.

A good point about this ammo is the length of the lead. it's great for the 1/7 or 1/9 twist of the AR.
My simple research found that this ammo will tumble and not be as accurate in a standard .22lr rifle
because of the length of the projectile and spin. Target rifles work with this ammo well also.

I also use this ammo in my Bobcat as backup. Nothing is accurate in that
little gun so why not use big lead.

What happens if a 300-700-lb hungry black/grizz wanders into your area, intent on making a meal of you? I always carry my Beowulf .50cal w/ .350-.400gr loads in 11-rnd mags (3-4 extra mags in tactical vest).

My 1974 Colt Trooper MKIII .357Mag is just window dressing against a PO’d grizz at 50-75yds, if they charge. Only happened once and I ended that quickly.

My Class III AR-15s/AR-10s & Barrett .50 BMG are for longer range duty.

“on my .22 long bull barrel Ruger clone I have a suppressor I made myself. “

Are you licensed to manufacture and possess suppressors?

In your opinion, what brand of .22 is the most accurate off the shelf.

Sorry, but I have to disagree. My dad used to knock off Mule deer with single shots to the lungs - about the same tactic as a bow-hunter uses. Once he even mistakenly killed an elk.

Later on, when I lived in the Alaskan bush, I was out cutting wood when I saw a moose nearby. I stalked him for awhile and finally put a shot into his right eye, knocking him to his knees. I then ran up and put a second shot into his brain.

My dad used an ancient Savage .22 with iron sights and I used a Ruger 10/22 with a scope.

Well, I could kill Shaquille O’Neille with my Crossman .177, but it would have to be a perfect shot and he’d have to lie down and agree to it!

(wouldn’t want him fallin down on me!)

I’m gonna stick with my original statement that a .22 should not be considered a zombie stopper. Look, I understand what you are saying, and commend you and your dad for some fine shooting. A few years ago, I was back east and me and my brother were plinking around with .22’s. After I shot about a half dozen pigeons, he says “Man, you are damn good with that rifle!”

Now I rarely hunt anymore. But my brother is totally dedicated to hunting white tail (upstate NY) with a bow and with a shotgun. So I took it as a pretty good compliment.

I have an old Remington model 552 auto which will shoot shorts, longs, and Long rifles interchangeably and reliably.

It is not the most accurate rifle I have but it is still above average and every now and then it thinks it is a target rifle.

I have read of a couple of writers who decided they would pick the .22LR as their one gun if forced to make that decision.

One was the Late Skeeter Skelton who picked the .22 rifle, while old Alaskan writer Russel Annabel chose the Colt Woodsman in .22LR.

Then again Sherif Wilson said he would pick the Ruger Super Blackhawk in .44 mag.

I personally would go with a 12 gauge automatic. But if I could have two, the second one would be .22 auto rifle but I would hate to have to leave out the Beretta model 70 in .22LR.

"I always poo-poo’d the .22 when I first started shooting. Seemed silly to dink around with a gun that fires a round not much bigger than a decent booger."

Good article with real data. The best kind of testimony.

I grew up shooting 22LR (semi-auto). It was not unusual to take down a fully grown hog at 50-100 yards with a couple of shots. These were domestic hogs allowed to "free range" by unscrupulous neighbors who thought it was easier to cut our fences and feed their hogs on our corn crops than to buy (or grow their own) "hog chow". Any such found on our property were "terminated with extreme prejudice".

Anyone who says the 22LR is "non-lethal" is an idiot.
