They hit the U.S. after successful launches by Labatts, Molson and Moosehead. Their advertising (at least on the college campuses) was so over the top pushing the Canadian thing that we just kind of assumed that it was more schtick than good beer. One friend of mine called it Royal Canadian Mounted Police Beer. I cannot even find it any more, and I never saw it on hand in Canada itself.
These days when Guiness and Fosters have breweies in Canada (I believe so the stuff can still be labeled "imported" for American audiences), I'm not sure why I'd bother with Grizzly if I came upon it. These days, I'm drinking Peroni. It tastes like Heineken used to taste.
