Attention Preppers: good deal on an Air Rifle at Woot today. . . .

Found a good deal for the Preppers out there: Woot! is selling a good Gamo Air Rifle, .177 caliber, for $135 bucks including shipping.

Gamo Varmint Stalker with Scope

I've been looking at Air Rifles/Pellet Guns to add to my collection of useful tools, and got this deal in the mail this morning. It won't last long: Woot's deal is 1 day or whenever they sell out, whichever comes first. . . . I grabbed one, many of you will probably like this deal too, about half retail, and about a third off of general online prices.

That is a good price for that air gun. Not that I would ever do such a thing, but a friend of mine said it was pretty effective at killing pigeons that were damaging his tile roof.

Not as accurate as a competition air rifle, but it sends the pellets out at a pretty high velocity. Some come with a scope and a laser. One might think the laser is a bit silly, but I, er I mean my friend said you could use the displacement of the laser in relation to the crosshairs to judge range.

Anyone wishing to grow fruit, or nut trees in a suburban backyard will find a Gammo air gun with a silencer to be very useful.

They offered that before and I passed. Went to Dick’s Sporting Goods and picked up a Remington .177 (for squirrel eradication in my case) for less than $90 that more than does the job.

I got one of those several years ago. Worked well for a few years, executed many bunnies in my garden. Then, suddenly, it developed barrel sag. Can’t hit anything with it now.

Won’t penetrate a blue helmet; I’ll pass.

A review from Amazon.com

Inconsistent shot groups July 7, 2012
By In Georgia
After 200 shots, and shooting from a solid bench rest I get inconsistent 2 to 3 inch shot groups at 45 feet no matter what kind of pellet I use. That’s 45 feet! Walk it out, it’s only a short distance. I’ve been told the accuracy will improve the more I shoot it. My question is: Will I ever get better than 2 inches at 45 Feet? How many more times will I have to try? I’m looking for better accuracy than this.

It could be just a defective unit. I have a
Gamo whisper that gets 1/2 inch groups at the same range.

That seems a bit wide. Mine shoots all pellets touching at 33 feet (10m). I picked 10 m because that is the range competitive air guns are shot at so I had a benchmark on the relative accuracy. It might be the pellets as well. I shoot RWS and Gamo brand pellets through it, not Crossman or Daisy.

I will add some other possible factors on that review as well. These guns are spring piston and therefore the working of the piston can greatly affect accuracy if they gun was poorly assembled. Additionally, spring piston guns require significant attention to follow through when shooting. The action of the piston is slower than a firearm so any shooting fundamental issues will be amplified greatly.

I apologize if i am telling you things that are obvious to you.
