I could probably live with the monitor like this, I’d rather not. I’ll probably figure things out sooner or later but on Free Republic... the font seems to change at random. Weird.

Toshiba doesn’t support Linux, so they do not provide any drivers for any Linux version.

Linux has certified Ubuntu for some Toshiba laptops, but your model is not yet on their list. I think that their Certified designation means they include good drivers for all standard devices on those systems.

You might not be able to find a better display driver than the one that Ubuntu installed.

Check the properties of the display for ways to adjust the screen (assuming Ubuntu has a properties menu or some other way of controlling the screen properties).

As I mentioned before, I’m not really a Linux guy, so I don’t know much about how you might fix that in Ubuntu.

Another option is to connect an external monitor (standard, nothing special so that Ubuntu can use standard drivers).

You might try checking a Linux forum on Ubuntu and finding display drivers for Toshiba, etc.

Hope that helps,
RT

As far as I can see Ubuntu doesn’t give me ANY ability to do anything like that. I certainly hope someone can find a solution at the Ubuntu forums.

It means it’s using a generic driver because it doesn’t ‘know’ how to drive your screen properly.

My screen is now fully utilized, yay. All I needed to do was run this script in the command terminal:

sudo apt-get install screen-resolution-extra

Still working on the printer, it says I needed some GUI thing when I ran the command I found for it, it tried to load it though.
