Yes. Some Toshiba’s, however, will require a Toshiba reinstall disk. Call them and request them. Give them your model # and ser. # from the bottom of the laptop.

Also be sure to enable the firewall and install an AV before you let the install (or anything else) connect to the internet. I like to install the service packs before that too. Just select the register later option in the setup.

At this point it looks like I am getting a new ‘clean’ hard drive, I will keep the old one though. I will try see if I can recover the data from the old HD. I will install some type of Linux on the new one while I am also trying to see if I can get the product key/OEM key.

*takes a breath*

What a mess. lol.

+1 on Ubuntu Linux.
I actually run Kubuntu from a flash drive. Same thing only different.

You can check here, by plugging in the serial, to see if they have the reinstall disc. Then, I would suggest calling them to see if they might supply them at little or no cost.

Download Xubuntu Linux.

Works great on laptops, low resource tolerant.

I’d install Ubuntu, as its easier than windows to install. If you need windows, and when you actually find some cheap copies, you can run windows inside of Ubuntu, in a program called Virtualbox, again, easy to setup and get running. You will be surprised how easy Ubuntu is to setup and get you online.
I am an IT professional, mostly, and have been playing the game for decades, and its my opinion that Ubuntu is the easiest OS to setup for people who don’t know much about computers.

There is a version of Ubuntu that you can run off of a flash drive, which are about 5 bucks. Ubuntu is free, so I don’t know what’s holding you back at this point.

I hope I can figure it out. I have the ISO on USB card, I don’t know how I can get a blank hard drive to read it though.
