Keeping up with the news surrounding the Reno Air Races this year has been exhausting. Racers and fans alike have so many questions, i.e., are we racing, what changes will we see, who will be there, who wont, will the fans notice any changes? These are all good questions. I hope that I have, through this column, helped everyone understand what the process has been following the horrific event of September 16, 2011. I have tried to listen to the questions the fans have been asking and answer them here.

Rare Bear is the noise to beat! It sounded so AWESOME with that 3 blader on it...cool calm morning heat coming down the Valley of Speed you could hear that Thrum...Thrum...Thrum in the growl of the engine all the way in the grandstands. I get goosebumps thinking about it.
The 4 blader doesn't sound quite so threatening but the plane rounds pylons faster with it so you gotta do what you gotta do.
I miss Lyle, I will miss John Penney. Go Stewart GO! Go Bear! Woot!
Maybe you wouldn't be so cynical.
They disgust me. Shame on them. I hope the lawyers find a way around the LLCs.
How is this different from NHRA or NASCAR or any other professional race venue?
Lawsuits are ongoing if that makes you happy. If the pilot carried liability alone, who would be getting sued? The pilot is dead.
You sound like a class warfare, nanny stater.
BTTT
Is there even any discussion of the horrible thing that Jimmy Leeward did in altering his plane, to glorify himself in speed in front of a crowd--without alerting whoever is in charge of the races (is anyone in charge? Any grownups, or just adolescent boys with cockpit fantasies?).
Any responsibility for making this horrid person into a hero all these years?
I'll bet there aren't going to be a lot of bragging rights about photos next to the Galloping Ghost. Just everyone keeping quiet.
And how about whoever was in charge, their responsibility to oversee these very zealous and immature racers?
Are you Jimmy Leeward’s ex-wife? Or any pilot’s “Negative Nelly” from years past?
Sheesh, you have a lot of hostile opinions about an event and people you have never seen or met.
Or have you been to Reno? What year? What happened to you there to make you so cynical?
.
Champagne before the Gold Final!
We made the next year's Air Race program with this picture. I can post post "Bear Wins" festivities when I get back to my home computer.
That's Cloud Dancer on the placard.
Shame on those who are holding this race again without dealing first with the people killed and hurt, and their families!!
And I happen to know someone who, last year, mourned over the Reno Air Race not because of the calamity and the 11 dead people and 64 injured, some devastatingly, but because he thought it would spoil his fun this year. Your typical flyboy, at his graceless and selfish worst. I got to hear about Jimmy Leeward and his glories...though now that he's been shown to be the deliberate cause of all the carnage suddenly he never existed.
No coming to terms, no facing the music.
I didn't think after the disaster that it would dare run again, not after the officials showed themselves to be such reckless fools, but here we are.
And you know this how?
One of the victims is coming back this year...I'll say "Hi" to him for you. He is a double amputee.
I'll provide a post race update.
Send me some links. You seem to have already done the legwork.
If Harry Reid makes it so, you can be pretty sure the Mob is not far away. So that's the company you're keeping. Then go back to the previous link I offered, quite informational, which will inspire further keyword searches.
I meant the links about how the victims and their families have been ignored by RARA.
Harry Reid making a statement about an event in his state being able to continue is hardly an indictment.
Even air race fans have been to victims’ houses and helped them out...all reported for the world to see on Facebook.
I’m sure individuals have been kind to individuals. As kind as you’re being to the wholesome and handsome Honest Harry Reid.
WooHoo!
Go Marilyn and Ruby!
Are you out at Stead?
No. I can’t make it. :(
Do it yourself! If You know how too!
