Turn Out The Lights: The Grand Old Party Is Over

That’s it. You can shut down the convention right now. It’s over. Romney’s camp just shut down all dissent, and they rigged it that way. Twitter is awash in angry tweets from people who know this was a sham. John Boehner actually wielded the gavel without a hint of a tear as he said “the ayes have it.” They didn’t have it, and I think it was pretty clear that even if they did, this was a set-up. I have news for the GOP establishment. I am voting in November. I will vote for all the down-ballot candidates who are worthy of my support. I am not going to vote for Mitt Romney. Don’t look at the page as though you’ve read the words of a man pledging treason. It was not I who rigged the primaries. It was not I who rigged the convention. It was not I who rigged the rules committee. All of those things are actual treasons against the conservatives in the America, and all of those things were carried out by Mitt Romney and his legion. I am a small matter to it, but I will have my say. If the Republican party wishes to commit suicide by Romney, they may do so, but they will do so without my help in the matter. John Boehner may have enjoyed his moment in despotic pleasure, and Reince Priebus may have been doing his masters’ bidding, but Mitt Romney had it within his power to put a stop to all of this, but when tested by circumstance, Mitt Romney’s fatal character flaws prevailed.

The Republican Party is dead. It’s time we get on with this convention and consider it a funeral. You’re witnessing a party that will now fall, and I’m going to help it on its way. Some of you diehard Republicans who read this blog may wish to find other haunts. It’s not going to be pretty. When I saw John Sununu begin to surface with regularity on Fox News over the last few weeks, I suspected the fix was in. His conduct of the RNC Rules Committee on Tuesday demonstrates that fact.

I am a person who refuses to separate his convictions from his actions and choices. Mitt Romney could have done many things to gain my support, and the support of many others, but rather than do so, he seized control. He used all his pals and buddies to take over and make the voices of grass-roots Republicans and Tea Party conservatives silent. Some will urge that we remain focused on November, and I agree, but my focus is irrevocably changed. I am out to defeat the GOP establishment in any and every form that may take.

Note to conservatives: I will understand if you swallow your pride and your principles and vote for Mitt Romney, but do not come to this site to chastise me or others who refuse to join you. Your argument had consisted of convincing us that the Romnoids wouldn’t behave this way, and at precisely that moment when they needed to prove it, they behaved precisely as we dissenters knew that they would. Save it.

Romney had his chance. Today, he blew it.

Who else was going to win the nomination? People like running their mouths but I don’t hear any names. If you wanted someone other than Romney to win, you should’ve busted your ass during the primaries.

That’s a good question. During the primary campaign season I looked across a downright marginal group of GOP candidates and realized that most of them were terribly flawed and likely unelectable.

It’s a little late in the game to be making noises about starting a new conservative party. Are we going to hand Obama another 4 years? As for focusing on the down ballot races, that’s fine. Just understand that if the Republicans take the Senate by a seat or 2 the Democrats will do everything they can to ‘flip’ a moderate Republican to retain control. Then you’ll have 4 more years of what you have now — a split congress with a marxist in the White House.

“I am out to defeat the GOP establishment in any and every form that may take.”

First defeat Obama, THEN defeat the GOP establishment.

The first preserves the country, temporarily, the second is a more important philosophical change.

The fact is that even among supposed “conservatives” a large number of them get a check from the government, and as such, have a very big stake in the status quo.

Conservatives are outnumbered in the GOP. Destroying the country with another Obama term in order to save it from a status-quo GOP is hardly advisable.

How many of you who refuse to vote for Romney get government financial support, I wonder?

“I am not going to vote for Mitt Romney.”

In Indiana I had no choice in the primaries. Newt’s name was still there even though he had withdrawn. I’m sick of this.

Apparently the convention crap is standard behavior for the GOP-e according to Rush. Mr Limbaugh indicated this kind of infighting has been going on for decades — he wasn’t dismissive, but seemed interested in quelling any unnecessary outrage. I don’t know, the whole affair seemed pretty alarming to me.

We still need to win, so I guess this is just another annoyance along the way.

Those who refuse to vote against Obama are voting for him and for the continued decline of this nation as a display of selfish petulance. Save your whining for another time, hold your breath, and cast your vote for the side of freedom.

"Right now, got to get Obama OUT of the White House."

Yes, the conduct by the GOP and Romney operatives is despicable, but the Obama alternative is even worse. Four more years of Obama and elections in whatever is left of the USA will just be for show. There will be no tomorrow for conservatives if that happens and Romney is the only vessel to try and stop the planned destruction of America.

“I am sick of so called conservatives fighting to re elect Obama..”

Or, even worse, so-called conservatives electing Obama in the first place. I’m talking specifically about McCain, who did everything he could to assure Obama’s win in ‘08. Refused to discuss Black Liberation Theology and other blatant problems about Obama. And THEN... THEN... he said, “We have nothing to fear from an Obama presidency.” I despise both of them.

Same for me in Kentucky. By the time the primary got to us, Ron Paul was the only not-Mitt still running on the ballot, so I held my nose and voted for that black helicopter nutjob. A lot of good it did.

May the chains of Obama, Reid and Pelosi weigh lightly upon you and your family then.

As far as the convention was concerned, Ron Paul’s supporters tried to game the convention rules to place him in nomination, even though he didn’t have the delegates needed.

During a time when we need to show unity (because the DNC sure as hell will), Ron Paul’s ego got in the way.

If, by the grace of God , we prevail in November it won’t be with your assistance.

Wow, the number of Freepers that have drunk the Kool-aid. Enjoy Mitt. The GOPe will be laughing at you guys for the next 8 years. I really think Mitt will destroy this country faster than Obama can. Conservatives can fight Obama, can keep him from doing ANYTHING. Good luck fighting the GOPe AND the Rats together. We need to ignore the top of the ticket and put together a CONSERVATIVE party for 2016. We need to vote for every CONSERVATIVE down ticket. We need to do this NOW! But no, all you hear on here is we’ll do this next election, this one is too important. Yeah, I heard that last time and time is running out.

This arguing by convention delegates is standard fare and happens on the state level too. In Maryland we have the same two arguments every convention, and 90% of our time is spent debating and voting on rules. It’s standard stuff, and unfortunately the Ron Paul people seem to be the main cause of most of the strife.

I would vote for Mitt Romney now just to get Paul Ryan elevated to a position that has been surprisingly useful for policy in recent years. The office of Vice President has had varying degrees of influence, mostly due to the personality of the individual who happens to hold that title.

And Paul Ryan, simply because he now has a national platform, can make policy statements that have to be considered seriously, which before, he would be relegated to the margins and trivialized by the national media. The new national debate is on, and the other side has no honest contribution to make. They are reduced to ad hominem attacks and distortions, repeated to the point of absurdity.
