The slavering, slobbering hyenas in the Republican party, by tearing at the flesh of their own senatorial candidate Todd Akin, are doing their best to blow their shot at taking control of the Senate. By eating their own, they are consuming themselves. And they seem too brainless to know it.
If he loses this race, it will be the fault of party poobahs, not Todd Akin. One of the party leaders actually suggested last night that the GOP try to run a third-party challenge to their own candidate. That would be a certifiably guaranteed way to forfeit victory to the opposition.
Akin’s words, for which he apologized even though he had no need to, were right. He was entirely correct to say that pregnancies in cases of forcible rape are rare.
He did not, by the way, say that pregnancy was impossible in rape, just rare.
How about the New York Times, the Bible of [left-wingers]? “Lowering Stress Improves Fertility Treatment.”
Said Dr. Domar, “If you’re really stressed out and depressed, the body seems to sense that’s not a good time to get pregnant.” Hmm. Sound suspiciously like the body shutting down, no?
Todd Akin uses one word that was grossly misinterpreted by his enemies, and the members of his own party throw his carcass to the jackals.
Now that Akin has decided to stay in...as he should, ignoring the hysterical bellows and the pitchforks, the ruling class Republicans will have to eat some crow and reverse themselves by resuming support for Akin’s candidacy. Certainly they cannot be so stupid as to commit hari-kiri by withholding help because they’re in some kind of snit. Can they?
The lesson from all of this: if you’re a Republican, and you want a friend in the party, you’d better buy a dog.

Where do these leading conservatives get such ideas?
Mitt Romney was a devotee during his 2007 presidential campaign of one Dr. John Willke, a leading right-to-live physician who has promoted weird ideas about female physiology and rape that were channeled the other day by Republican Senate candidate Todd Akin.
Reports The Atlantic online:
Hailing him as “The Father Of The Pro-Life Movement” and “an important surrogate for Governor Romney's pro-life and pro-family agenda,” the Romney for President campaign in 2007 welcomed Willke’s endorsement.
“I am proud to have the support of a man who has meant so much to the pro-life movement in our country,” Romney said in a statement at the time. “He knows how important it is to have someone in Washington who will actively promote pro-life policies. Policies that include more than appointing judges who will follow the law but also opposing taxpayer funded abortion and partial birth abortion. I look forward to working with Dr. Willke and welcome him to Romney for President.”
Willke was equally effusive. “Governor Romney is the only candidate who can lead our pro-life and pro-family conservative movement to victory in 2008,” he said in the statement.
And in the wake of Akin’s controversial remarks - - including that women who are raped don't get pregnant - - Willke reprised his beliefs in The New York Times:
“This is a traumatic thing — she’s, shall we say, she’s uptight,” Dr. Willke said of a woman being raped, adding, “She is frightened, tight, and so on. And sperm, if deposited in her vagina, are less likely to be able to fertilize. The tubes are spastic.”
Leading experts on reproductive health, however, dismissed this logic.
“There are no words for this — it is just nuts,” said Dr. Michael Greene, a professor of obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive biology at Harvard Medical School.
All of which is doing legitimate damage to Romney's campaign, and the reputation of Paul Ryan, Romney's Robin, and Akin’s close political and philosophical ally.
Why the hell should he go on FOX? So Hannity can try to browbeat him into resigning again? The liberal media will actually give him a fairer shake because the Republican media has their RNC-provided talking points on hand to try to destroy him, the same ones FOX marched in lockstep with to push Romney to the nomination. Absolutely nobody is as brutal to conservatives as the Republican media when they want to be. Just ask Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum. At least CNN hasn't banned Newt from the channel just because he honestly said Fox was biased towards Romney, something it didn't take a rocket scientist to notice. Keep in mind, Fox used the same RNC talking point question on every show at the time, "So, Newt and Rick, when are you dropping out and will you support Romney if he wins?" Romney was never asked if he'd support the other candidates if they won.
Oh, and, is Romney only going to do interviews with Fox? Is he going to ignore NBC, CNN, CBS and ABC in his campaign? Great way to get his message out, huh? Will you vow now to call Romney out as unqualified to be a candidate if he does an interview with CNN, ABC, CBS, etc?

And McConnell, Boehner and Romney are masters of communicating the conservative message? Where is this mythical army of articulate conservative Republicans who you want to replace our current 300 elected officials with? You have to have a consistent standard, and by that standard 90% of our party would have to have their funding cut off. The voters of Missouri had their shot to judge who was the best Republican candidate. It's not our job to second-guess their decision.
The Republican Party was going to get racked by the Democrats on their platform stance anyway! No one was going to remove that stance as doing so would damn sure ensure an election loss as abortion issue voters would have bailed on them in droves and they knew it!

Instead of discussing how Politically inept Akin has shown himself to be, we have people here using statistics in an effort to prove the idiotic unnecessary comments he made are “technically” true. They aren't, but I digress.
People don't care about whether Akin had a point, the Voters really don't care. Akin sounds like a Nut with his RAPE theory, and most people don't Vote for Nuts. (well, not Republican Nuts anyway)
All they know is Akin attached RAPE to the PRO LIFE position and he lost. He has damaged the Pro Life cause and he doesn't even see it.
This topic wasn't a blip on the Radar, now it will be a noose around every Republican Candidate's neck. It isn't fair, but it's the world we live in.

I'm not in an echo chamber. I'm in Pennsylvania near Philadelphia and hear people singing the praises of Obama and Obamacare every day. When you mention you're Republican or believe in a conservative position here, people just stare at you, totally confused and don't know what to say.
And talk about people not realizing stuff. You're not going to win anyone over by claiming Akin said pregnant rape victims are liars. That's a false smear, utterly absurd, and sounds like a talking point you picked up off of the Rachel Maddow show. He said NOTHING REMOTELY even close to that.
I'll give you some time to read up on some actual science...not that I expect any reply back.
It’s a good point, that can be extended in a secular way. You could be aborting someone who would have gone on to cure cancer.

Akin said something stupid and it can't be defended. He has given up a comfortable lead, not because he is Pro Life, but because he can't articulate a point.
He isn't a guy sitting on a bar stool pontificating like Cliff Klaven. He is a Candidate for the U.S. Senate and he has singlehandidly given his opponent and every other Democrat an issue that can be exploited.
If you don't see that, enjoy sharing Akin’s delusion.
