Transportation of Firearms Across State Lines
My Brain | August 17th, 2012 | America_Right

Question for fellow gun nuts:

I have a lot of guns at my dad's place in Ohio. Rifles (.22, 30/30), shotguns(410, 12ga, 20ga), and pistols (.38, .44). No assault weapons. Here's the thing. I want to drive them back to Idaho at some point, but I just heard a news story about a guy that is being charged with "Transportation of Firearms Across State Lines". If I get pulled over, am I going to prison? I know, this sounds like a stupid question, but I would hate to go to prison for driving legal firearms across the country.

I did that drive a couple of weeks ago. Turnpike to 90 West the whole way with PA plates. My advice, in addition to putting firearms in the trunk, is to time it so you drive past Chicago in the wee hours of the morning. 2:00 to 4:00 or so. The traffic is much better through all of the construction. Cops seem to be concerned only with keeping things moving along at about 30 to 40 mph through all of the orange barrels. Perfect cover for you! Set your cruise control on 90W and you are golden.

Buy it and keep it in the car

I have it but my ‘paranoia’ says if a JBT spots it he will push for a search and ‘tear the vehicle up’ looking for anything.
Also, if you get stopped, maybe just a smile and say, very calmly- after they announce their intentions to search - “I have heard peoples rights read to them-on the tube- hundreds of times and, sorry Officer/Trooper/Deputy etc, I will take advantage of that FREE LAWYER before I can allow you access to my vehice. Sorry, but that is my ‘gut feeling’ and I will stick to it”.

As to the recent charge “Transporting a gun across a state lines to commit a felony” was brought up in the DC shooting Thursday(?) where, luckily, no one was killed and I guess they pile as much on to make sure something ‘sticks’.
Since DC isn’t a State that should probably read State Line.

LOL... You obviously don’t know that there are several cops in jail for violations of FOPA.

You must be in full compliance with FOPA and if the officer declares he or she is taking the guns, that he or she is in violation of FOPA 86.

It works. It also give you one hell of a civil case against the officer should he proceed with his course of action.

How often do you get stopped for speeding?

I drive a cop magnet, so I don't speed (by much) unless everyone else is and it feels unsafe not to go with the traffic. Here's a pic of my baby.

Just an observation.

Judging by the Posts here, it seems like we are living in the former Soviet Union rather than the United States of America.

When did Gun paranoia take over this Country? I'm in my late 50’s and I remember my older Brother taking his .22 Rifle to Middle School because he was in the Shooting Club.

This wasn't out in small town Mid West, it was Long Island, New York. After we moved to California, we went shooting in the Angeles Forest all the time and I had a Gun Rack to carry my .22 and 30/30 Rifles in my Ford Pickup when I was 18 years old. Never thought it was a big deal because it wasn't.

The irrational fear of firearms has me perplexed. It's a different world in our own backyard. What a shame.

Cop magnet? Go all the way and pull a Romney. Tie 'em to the roof. (then tell the officers "those are just my dogs")

Might work better after the election, that is if Willard can get his self elected.

Go to a local sporting goods/gun shop in Ohio. They will pack and send them to you or a shop in your state. About $30-$50 per weapon. Each state has different rules and prices but it is easy and convenient. Did it from NY to Fl last year, no hassle

No, not for Ohio. I was talking about from Dallas. For Ohio I’d say 80 or 80-90 all the way (hopefully 90 — prettier and faster), unless he’s leaving from Columbus (I-70) or Cincy (I-64, I-70) in which case it could work.
