Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are pushing two controversial UN treaties that the U.S. Senate will consider this month.
Upon the advice of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, President Obama has confirmed his intention to sign two controversial U.N. treaties -- the Law of the Sea Treaty (LOST) and the so called "small arms" treaty.
Although many citizens and elected representatives are sounding the alarm about the small arms treaty, such as this entry Sunday at the Daily Paul, some political observers note that the treaty is unlikely to pass the Senate. But a very different scenario is developing for the Law of the Sea.
Twenty Republican senators are set to join with Democrats in upholding LOST. Some who are included in the list of 20 are those who have not yet decided how they will vote on the issue. Thus, the list of 20 includes those who have either declared support for LOST or declined to indicate their views on the subject one way or the other

The U.S. Constitution grants authority to presidents to enter into treaty agreements with other nations and entities. But due to the fact that a treaty, if approved, becomes the law of the land, the U.S. Senate must approve by an exact two-thirds majority rather than the simple supermajority of 60 votes. This means that 67 votes are needed in the Senate to approve a treaty.

The 20 Republicans who are apparently set to uphold the treaty, or who have not yet decided, are Enzi, McConnell, Hutchison, Toomey, Johanns, Ayotte, Graham, McCain, Lugar, Kirk, Snowe, Collins, Murkowski, Isakson, Grassley, Portman, Corker, Cochran, Brown, and Alexander.

The small arms treaty, on the other hand, is facing a much more difficult task in gaining the approval of the Senate.

Don’t forget Palin was and maybe still is for the LOST treaty.
You can google it for yourselves. I just don’t want to take time out to do it anymore.
Like many in TX, KBH believes, as she was taught in high school civics, in the importance of treaties to “keep the peace.” They didn’t tell her one has to read the details of the treaty. For so many, just a treaty itself is sufficient.
Just dropped the Cheerleader a note on our displeasure at the report of her considering voting for this crap.
Not sure it’ll matter. Maybe she’s PO’d that Texas is not going to elect her Dewhurst buddie.
I’ve contacted both of my senators
Kay baily is a lost cause, and always has been. I wish she left a long time ago.
I can’t believe she sh*t hole she is leaving to her children/grandchildren.
I think KBH will be very bored retired in little Nacogdoches. She is too used to the limelight, but I guess she can adjust ... or run for governor in 2014.
I wouldn’t count Dewhurst out at all. He has the support of all but one Republican state senator. People in TX have at least mostly heard of him, and that means a lot.
Why is the media not covering this story? If it wasn’t for FR, I wouldn’t know anything about it.
I’ve emailed her and called. I’m trying to get all my family to do the same...
Ayottte is a major Juan McPain worshipper and desires to be the Romney VP. She has no money or clout, just ovaries and a red “power” jacket outfit to look the part. Ayotte does what the money masters tell her, just like the other TEA party darling ovary carrying turn coat Nikki Haley...
Watch Juan McPain, that is exacatly what red power coat loser Ayotte will do too.
Well, here’s one...
Damn republican traitors. Name and shame these bastards. Let them know we won’t let them rest if they vote for this pos!
Actually, according to Article II, Section 2:
"He shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two-thirds of the Senators present concur;"
With a Quorum of 51, just 34 "yes" votes are needed--not 67. That makes a huge difference, and it easy enough for Harry Reid to accomplish--as long as he doesn't have enough opposition standing against it (middle of the night or holiday recess anyone?) I surely hope the Repubs are watching him like a hawk!
Well, for the most part, these 20 are the usual suspects. But note Portman on there, whom the Repub establishment and many Dems (which is a red flag) are trying to spoon-feed us as a Romney running mate. He and Pawlenty are the two worst ones I can think of in terms of winning possibility.
Gosh! What a surprise!
Donkephants all!
why are stories like this past off to Bloggers?
“You screwed up BIG TIME with this one, Governor Palin...this ‘mama grizzly’ is really a ‘soviet bear’...”
yes, I’m curious what you mean as well. She’s another one that’s getting talked up right now as possible VP pick.
One on romneys a-list for vp? Why am I not surprised. Mittens will be the death of us all in the end.
The establishment wants both of these treaties pretty bad. LOST has been hanging over the world like a spectre of death and destruction for decades now. The PTB understand that if they just wait long enough, their socialist goals will be implemented regardless of how the people of this country feel about it. I expect it to pass during the lame duck session, Romney may make noises against it, but in the end, he'll do nothing to stop it. Lost is a major agenda item of the globalists in the demopublican party. It's going to happen eventually.
The small arms treaty will most likely be voted down as a 'bone' to those who would otherwise take more heat for their LOST vote.
Remember folks, vote for Romney, because he and the party he represents want to destroy your liberty a little slower than the other guy!
OMG, NO!
I Think he is refering to Ayotte. Palin screwed NH conservatives and conservatives in general by supporting Ayotte in the primary versus Ovide Lamontange in the Senate Race 2010. Ovide has zero RINO tendancies....Ayotte is a RINO. Big difference. Palin definately chose the wrong candidate, in fact Ayotte barely won the primary due mostly to.....Palins endorsement. So for us NH Conservatives...Palin screwed us by enabling the Ayotte/McPain/John Sununu wing of the NH RINO party... Yes the Palin candidate won (ayotte), but.... a RINO, ala Nikki Haley... Had Ovide Lamontange won instead of Ayotte, this vote by a NH Senator Lamanange would not be an issue but NH Senator Ayotte is a RINO vote....two women supported by Palin that are confirmed RINO’s hmmmmmmmm Palin worshipers flame on...facts are interesting and stuborn things.
Two NE RINO's running things...what could possibly go wrong?
