Sure they could. Planes don’t need the electrical grid to fly.
The grid refines the fuels. The grid powers the radars. The grid is required for the NWS predictions. The grid runs the comm.control setup.
OK, once in a while you might see a Cessna fly overhead.
But the days of air travel with thousands of domestic and international flights of jumbo jets would be over.
