Truly horrifying. Been sending prayers for days.
The Mountains are on FIRE!
Terrible.:(
Prayers up for all those in the path of those flames and smoke.
Conservative groups should be loudly speaking out about the causes of this disaster:
1. Environmental groups fought logging, grazing, and roads in national forests. The roads are needed for access by firetrucks and the forests are loaded with dry fuel.
2. Obama retired two thirds of the fire-fighting aircraft and failed to renew the contract of the only civilian fire-fighting outfit that could help.
We should be calling the contributors and members of the groups, e.g. Sierra Club, who fomented this disaster. They should be called to the front of the firelines to show their love of the forest.
YET, 0bama and the dims are very popular in Colorado. I guess I'm not quite as concerned now - they reap what they sow.
My cousin, her husband and pets are in a motel outside the fire area, they are suppossed to be able to go and see if they still have a house today.
It is terrible. We went through the High Meadow fire in 2000 in Pine, Colorado and we were on alert for days. We could see flames from our front yard. We were sure we would lose the house. I know what they are going through and this time the fire is in a very populated area. Those foothills west of Colorado springs are chocked full of houses. We were lucky in 2000 that the fire had not started a few miles north of where it did or we would have been burned out too. Some of those people probably never got a chance to get home and gather belongings before the areas were closed off. Forecast is for much cooler days with rain all next week though. Hope they can get a handle on it before more peoples lives go up in smoke. There will be more fires before the Summer is out because there are 100’s of thousands of acres of beetle killed Lodgepole and Ponderosa pines up in the mountains. Whole mountains are just brown. All it takes is one lightning strike and there they go.
My prayers for your cousin and family. My son and his wife are also in a motel, and they had good news. There was no damage to their house, but houses within a block of them were destroyed. They were allowed back in today during the daytime to clean out their refrigerator, etc., but can’t yet return for good. The house is full of soot and ash, and the gas is still turned off. There is an aerial picture of the Mountain Shadows neighborhood after the fire here: http://standeyo.com/NEWS/12_Pics_of_Day/120628.pic.of.day.html
I am not at home, so I have heard nothing about my cousin, is Mountain Shadows anywhere near Green Mountain Falls?
I’m sorry. I don’t have a clue where Green Mountain Falls is. My son just got transferred to Colorado Springs, and we live in So. Cal. I’ve only been there once, about a month ago. I guess you could google it. :-)
