“We determined using medical record review that 83 percent of Medicare claims for atypical antipsychotic drugs for elderly nursing home residents were associated with off-label conditions and that 88 percent were associated with the condition specified in the FDA boxed warning.”

The FDA boxed warning in question is called a black box warning, and in this case it warns specifically Against giving these drugs to the elderly with dementia due to increased risk of death.

88% of the seniors who got these drugs in nursing homes had dementia.

Don’t put your relatives in nursing homes. See if you can care for them at home. Then, in addition, refrain from involving Hospice if at all possible.

I am convinced, the more I ponder and pray about my husband’s death, that Hospice did not help at all. (Hope you understand what I am not saying here.)
