Shots rang out just after midnight this morning at the HUB mall in the University of Alberta. It is still very early and the information is sketchy, but what we do know is three security officers from G4S Cash Solutions, the armoured division of the company, are dead and one officer is clinging to life in hospital.

I’m curious if the security officers were unarmed.
I'm pretty sure that the CBC report stated that they were armed but I'm not 100% certain.Canada has *very* strict gun laws...at least for ordinary people.I don't know, for example,if the typical Canadian policeman is armed or not...I'm going there in a few days and I'll try to check but if they're not it could mean that guys who drive "armored: cars are unarmed as well.
One poster says that he can't believe this happened in Canada. Does that say something about the mindset of those killed? Too little info.
I saw or heard another news story that said they were armed.
Every armoured-car crew I've seen (e.g. while servicing ATMs) was carrying sidarms. They may be responsible for $100,000 or more per unit, depending on the currency it's loaded with.
