Reese Family Update(ATF persecution in New Mexico)
The War on Guns ^ | 14 June, 2012 | David Codrea

As a follow-up to yesterday's GRE:

Yesterday was a great day for the family. The attorneys' for the defense of the kids did a GREAT JOB. Out of three motions they only got through (1) which was conspiracy against the government, straw purchasers, money laundering, smuggling etc. The judge was very attentive and very detail- oriented of all the issues brought forward by the government. The attorneys were able to bring up how the government agents lied on federal forms to try to get the kids to make a mistake so the feds could trap them. The judge could see what they were up to and didn't like it. The newspaper reporters were right on top of that story; the article should be out today in the paper. The motion hearing lasted until after 5:00 o'clock . We watched the news last nite, but they were not on last nite. Whenever there is anything on this case the news always picks up the story. So look for it today ,the other two motions for dismissal are reset for July 12th 13th, one of the motions being dismissal of the case.

Here's the story from Las Cruces Sun-News, the only other account posted in Google News at the present besides my piece.

The way this family has been treated makes the United States appear as a banana republic.

I still don’t understand why the Cartel would go to a gunshop in AZ to buy guns. They can get fully automatic weapons, grenades, RPGs, claymores and so forth from many other sources.

Its almost enough to make a person think the ATF has a different agenda. /s

Time to get rid of the ATF, send them all packing.

Here is a link to the Las Cruces Sun-News story. Do not post the story, excerpts or any part of it on FR -- The newspaper is on the Do-not-post list at the request of the copyright owner.

FYI, the attorney for the defense is Pete Domenici Jr., the son of the former Republican senator.

Another article on this: http://www.examiner.com/article/jailed-gun-dealer-family-hearing-scheduled-for-this-morning

Sickening the way the USG is going after them.

Meanwhile, a judge rejected Ryin Reese’s appeal for bail saying that because Reese has friends in Mexico, he is a flight risk. The judge also advanced the Reese’s trial date from October to July. Normally defense attorneys prefer to delay trials as long as possible, but since the Reese’s have been in jail since August and there appears to be little chance that any besides Terri will be aforded bail, the strategy seems to be that earlier is better. The civil forfeiture trial, in which the feds are attempting to claim virtually all of the family’s worldly goods, has not yet been scheduled.

Rick Reese, his wife Terri, and their two sons - Ryin, 24 and Remington, 19 - were arrested in August of 2011 on charges of knowingly selling guns and ammunition to illegal buyers for Mexican drug cartels. All of the family members have plead not guilty to the charges.

They were arrested without incident last August in Las Cruces, New Mexico on charges that they had knowingly sold guns and ammunition to smuggled to Mexican drug cartels. While I don’t personally know the Reese family, I have spoken with a number of people who do. The Reeses are by all accounts, well respected and liked within the Deming/Las Cruces area where they had lived for over 20 years, running a successful gun store for the past 17. Rick Reese had planned to retire from the business and close the store at the end of 2011 in order to make a run for sheriff of Luna County. Son Ryin was in the process of opening a store of his own in Las Cruces. The family was asked to come down to the ATF offices to discuss Ryin’s application for a Federal Firearms License – where they were arrested. Requests for bail have, so far, been denied on the grounds that they are flight risks and a threat to the community. The government has also announced their intent to move forward with a civil forfeiture hearing to claim virtually everything the family owns as “ill-gotten gains.”

This looks like the real target of Obama/Holder's Fast and Furious gun walking project. Targeting and making examples out of gun shop owners and blaming the violence in Mex on them!
