A woman lay on the bed in a small house in the north woods. An old woman, her sight was gone, she could no longer walk, she could not hear well, her world had shrunk to this small house and a few of her children and friends. She was 97 years old. She hurt, her bones ached, she was tired and yet, her mind was clear.
For a time, she lived in the Caribbean, rode fast boats, knew heroes, defeat, and victory. This woman is my mother, and she knew some of the joy of life again as I read Matt Brackens dystopic action thriller, Castigo Cay.
For a week this spring, I read to her when she was awake and I was able. My sister and I took care of her as she can no longer care for herself. She was captivated by Castigo Cay, enthralled by the story, transported to the tropics and the ocean wilderness. Once, she asked me Is it real? It seems so real!
I won a case of Castigo Cay from Matt (our own Travis McGee) on a bet on Freerepublic. I would gladly have paid for the case if I had lost.
I will always owe a debt of gratitude to Matt for the hours that he transported my mother to another time and place, where she was part of a great adventure on the tropical seas.
If you have not read Matts books, please do so. You will not be disappointed.
I’m saving that image so I re-read them in sequence this time...
I’d purchased/downloaded them all at one time to my Kindle. When I finished the book I was reading, I simply picked the one I thought was the first. Well, it wasn’t. Sheesh!
Need a ‘like’ button. ;)
Awesome...just awesome.
Now there’s a satisfying twist, an old woman there had BTDT and knew the book.
Go to this website, www.EnemiesForeignAndDomestic.com . - About a hundred pages of each 500+ page novel may be read there.
"Bleeding-edge dystopian thrillers, for readers who are tired of politically-correct fiction."
.
I’ve bought 3 sets of Enemies Foreign and Domestic, had one set sent to my County Sheriff’s office for their reading pleasure. I think it’s time I bought anohter set; I buy directly from Travis so he gets all the $.
Getting the series and Castigo Cay on the Kindle was great for many of us, being that its stored on the Amazon Cloud server it can be kept in its archive files. I often download EFAD to my Samsung Galaxy S II for showing the artwork to my friends and to give them a sample to read.
If I were to be doing long distance driving such as being a line driver I would really love to see all of them in an audio book version, hint hint...
I wonder if Travis has considered a novelization of the days immediately after Obama or a fictional POTUS with the exacting same ideology is exposed, is removed from office, is tried for treason, gets pardoned, sets off for his homeland and then with cached billions of dollars becomes the new UBL and vows to destroy America for revenge of its non acceptance of his ideology.
If I come back to this thread anymore I'm gonna need a salt tablet.
What a great and Accurate review!
I tried to find it but I have too many pings to go through. In a birther thread I made the comment that a “natural born Citizen” would not try to destroy this country. A FReeper lambasted me as dumb and pointed to Bill Ayers as an example.
But I made the comment in the context of the thread and it conversational direction. What I meant was that we who are born here of parents who are it’s citizens, and even maybe nbc’s themselves, view this country with a reverence that no one else can understand. Bill Ayers would not even run the POTUS because he knows he would not get elected. So my point was that if you are seeking to be POTUS and you ARE a NBC that you would not be on a mission to destroy this country.
I tear up every time I hear our national anthem.
He is a *very* good writer!
Glad you were right and won the bet. At least you were right.. FOR NOW. "Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty." -- Wendell Phillips, (1811-1884), abolitionist, orator and columnist for The Liberator, in a speech before the Massachusetts Antislavery Society in 1852
Thanks for getting my Dad hook on these novels...
When he finished the first one (Yellow), he got bit by the preparedness bug...
Then he finished the nextone (Red), got mad and started getting a fever...
The third installment gave him chills and a nightmare, and all the time since the first read, he and I have been getting things “done” since then...
Castigo Cay made him hope we are all up in our little neck of the woods, before it gets that bad...If it ever does...
Your novels were the catalyst that many wake up to, and realize that, “Hey! we ain’t that far from going off the edge!”
Again, many thanks to your knowledge, insight and ability to put it in writing for all of us to enjoy...
BZ sir!
Ah, a fellow perfectionist. I look forward to the next one!
The book I just finished was Ship of Ghosts, the story of the heavy cruiser Houston, which was sunk during the Battle of the Sunda Strait on March 1, 1942. It is an excellent read and I highly recommend it. The author, James Hornfischer, has written several excellent works of naval history.
