I do not understand why Zimmerman would trust anyone or anything to do with the US legal system.

Huge misstatement in the article about the trust fund. The money was not put in there until well after the bond hearing and GZ’s lawyer has already acknowledged the deception by GZ and his wife.

Last week was a bad week for Obama (jobs report, etc.), so something had to be done.

A picture of Judge Lester would be nice. Also is he appointed or elected and if elected is he running this year?

I think we are seeing the injustice systems way of saying: “It is better to imprison one innocent man than provoke the wrath of the perpetually aggrieved sub-culture, who have made good on their promise of “no conviction, I mean justice, no peace!”

Whatever the outcome, I will NEVER change my carrying armed status nor my daily plan of defense of self and others. Naysayers be damned.

Yesterday, AOL, in an effort to fan-the-flames, posted a headline about “Secret Money”...

deviating from what would typically happen in such a case

This would make a great subtitle for a book about this whole thing.

Judge Lester is on the spot here. He admitted that if he had known how much money there was, that he would have set bond/bail higher. So he's acknowledging that they had reason to fear the court finding out about the Paypal monies. At the time he set it at $150,000 there was no certainty that GZ's parents would be putting up their homes for bond, so just where was the bailbond supposed to come from??? the blue sky???

The $150,000 was already an excessively high bond for someone who was destitute then and still is, is not a flight risk, still has no assets, has to depend upon the charity of others, already has racked up a $50,000 legal bill, and is charged with a crime that the prosecution after a month of looking at the forensic evidence and tampering with witnessses still has no evidence for. If the judge looked at the totality of where the trial is one month later, he should be lowering the bond if not freeing GZ.

Have they deposed DeeDee, the prosecution's ghost witness yet??? She'll be the next one they will have to set bond for because whe'll be a no-show.

If bond is denied or raised, then GZ should demand his stand your ground hearing pronto and make the prosecution put up or shut up right now.

The author is using a time warp.

The money wasn't put into a trust account until a week after the bail hearing, and the "infraction" occured at the bond hearing.

Jdg. Lester did this for political appeasement reasons.

1. To appease the race-baiters by bringing Z back to FLA where the “bounty” has still not been withdrawn. Not to get Z wkacked but to intimidate him into copping a plea)>

2. To appease the Holder DOJ by damaging Z’s credibility. “If he lied about his finances, maybe he lied about the scuffle/shooting.”

At the bond hearing, GZ’s wife testified that she didn't know how much money was in the account and that GZ’s brother had control of it. She said that they could get him on the phone to testify as to the amount in the account, but that suggestion was not taken up on. Because the website collection of funds is such a new thing, the judge himself didn't even know if the money was legally available to GZ for his bail. He said he would have to have more info before he could rule on it.

The state's attorney blindsided O’Mara and Zimmerman with this motion to revoke bail by filing it at 8:30 on the morning of the hearing that was supposed to be about media access to the discovery. The judge should not have entertained the motion at this hearing because it did not give GZ time to even get to the hearing or his attorney to prepare for the state's motion. The state had an obligation to file the motion in a timely manner and they did not do that. GZ has a right to confront his accusers, and he was denied that right.

Revoking GZ’s bail was way out of line. He should have had a hearing specifically for that purpose.

As far as the new passport is concerned, the judge accepted O’Mara’s explanation that GZ had turned it over to him but O’Mara neglected to turn it over to the court immediately. I do believe that it had been turned over to the court before this hearing took place, but I'm not sure.

Bail is set to help guarantee that the defendant will show up in court. Unless there is a reason to believe that Zimmerman will not show up, bail is unnecessary. Increasing bail because of a larger bank account makes no sense.

Someone should send this judge back to law school.

I keep reading that GZ lied when he said that he had “limited funds”. Doesn’t everyone have limited funds? But if you live in a gated community, you’re probably not destitute (unless the “gated community” is prison).
