has at least one, and usually more, busybodies that know exactly who to call .... to report any infraction by their neighbors

I have a few of those busy bodies in the neighborhood. My buddies and I watch them closely. I have been much more observant lately. When doing chores such as cleaning my guns, I now do it inside my house, instead of in the garage.

Get a ticket. Or string up an antenna and listen.

It's not hard. Hell, a cook can do it.

Someone on another thread suggested that when there are free food lines, we need to be in those lines.

That's true - you need to be there - but you need to do it right.

The front of the line will be *ahem* contested.

You do not want to be there.

You want to be the pansy in the back who hasn't got the guts to go up to the front, fighting for position, and possibly getting stomped.

You will eventually walk away, making a great show of being forlorn, hungry and dejected (but uninjured).

Wail loudly about "Why couldn't those a-holes bring enough for everyone?".

Sorry about the double. You are right on about the three types. One more thing I’ve met few Libs in CERT in Texas, most are conservatives serving the public. Few are wana bees, few are wack jobs. And if Big Sis thinks she can co-op us she can eff off, this is Texas baby.

” It’s not hard. Hell, a cook can do it. “

Perhaps I failed to mention that, while I’m a decent carpenter, a so-so-metalworker, and a fair mechanic — I’m a danger to myself and my community with a soldering iron in my hand... ;)

I have had a lifelong mental block about things electrical/electronic - which is odd, as my Dad was an Electrical Engineer... ;)

Here is the NVIS info.

Amazing how much stuff you remember when you forget so much stuff. I have one of those antennas, and it does work well. I did emergency comms from Ft. Worth to Austin with it on 40 meters.

No harm in that. You are gifted in carpentry... I dislike cutting my thumb off. I'll remember that. ;)

I don’t think they have much need for informants. Unless you buy locally and with cash they already know what you buy.

Even if you buy locally they probably have a good idea that you are a prepper.

Either way it won’t matter. They’ll (the govt) come take what you have or they won’t. If they decide to come take it they will go to everyones house.

I only worry about opsec from neighbors and not to be associated with any anti-govt types.

I dislike cutting my thumb off.

I would imagine so.

The blood would screw-up the flavor of the food.

Thanks - that sounds pretty interesting....

My experience is limited to my high-school days, when I helped my neighbor string a long wire from his workshop window to the top of a tree across his yard (guess who was the dumb one who climbed to the skinny top of the tree??)..

But he could converse halfway around the globe with that long-wave horizontal (or nearly so) dipole...

Not worried about that... worried about the hispanic sous-chef that will cauterize the wound on the flat grill.

I do still have nightmares about that.

And when you are raised in a household speaking english, getting latin and hebrew whacked into you, and French is the language you get every hour of every day...

Trying to remember how to beg for 'please don't burn that bad cut anymore' in Spanish is really hard to remember.

I default to Latin. It mostly works. Screaming helps. Whacks help a lot.

That falls under “No good deed goes unpunished.” Threatening to kill you for trying to help people is just beyond the pale.

Thank you for all the valuable information.

I concur with your assessment of those three groups, and there are other categories of people who resent preppers.

One such other group are those who are themselves prepping (or having their government employer prepare for them), but think they should get to choose who else should be allowed to stock up on supplies. These people are pure F'N evil.

Needless to say, any SHTF situation in this society is going to be so factionalized that the Balkins will look like a family reunion by comparison.

The solution is real simple -- Constitutional law and equality under the law. Only one of the many "factions" respect that concept, and those are Constitutional conservatives.

If I see very many more Zombie stories I may go out and get a gun. Somebody out there is going to take advantage of those drugs.

rebar wire, axes, pepper spray. tasers, knives, 30 boxes of borax and washing soda, 10 dozen canning jars, DE, rain gutter diversion kits, 28 bags of charcoal, fire starter flint kits, fish antibiotics, 55 gallon drums, 24 bags of pool shock, fire brick maker, and this is only in the last 6 months.
