Yes, I see the point of that, and I think it’s pretty accurate. Attacks on McCain were basically, “He’s old, and he might be bats.” Attacks on Sarah were much more personal.
However, there is the implication that this made the difference in the election, and I don’t think that’s correct at all.

McCain/Palin were AHEAD in all the polls until Bush announced the economic disaster
That is what lost the election NOT Palin --She saved McCain
