Yes, I see the point of that, and I think its pretty accurate. Attacks on McCain were basically, Hes old, and he might be bats. Attacks on Sarah were much more personal. However, there is the implication that this made the difference in the election, and I dont think thats correct at all.

McCain/Palin were AHEAD in all the polls until Bush announced the economic disaster
That is what lost the election NOT Palin --She saved McCain

I think Sarah saved McCain from a Dukakis-type defeat. The conservative faithful came out in droves to vote for her, while the old-school military types like my father voted for McCain out of Navy solidarity.
McCain was a weak candidate, both absolutely and in context. His one strength was that you could be sure he was a patriot ... but you can say that about Vlad RasPutin, too: you know he’s a Russian Nationalist.
