ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) The reverend of a St. Paul church says he needs to raise $200,000 to pay off a church loan after most of his followers left because of his support for gay marriage.
The Rev. Oliver White runs Grace Community United Church of Christ in St. Paul. The 69-year-old said he needs to raise the money by June 30.
We lost our income when we lost a number of people from our congregation. White said.
White said two-thirds of his followers left after he said he supported same-sex marriage, and said he was against the marriage amendment that will be up for a vote in November.
I think people are scared scared of change, and what has been in the closet is finally coming out, and too many people are not willing to accept it, White said.
He argued they have to accept it, adding that its a civil rights issue.
Its time for our society to do as Rodney King did and say, Cant we all get along? That should be the 11th commandment as far as Im concerned, he said. We should not try to legislate morality, in terms of who should get married and who cant get married.
White said they are praying for a miracle donation, but says even if they lose the church, those remaining members will find another place to worship.
This should be a test of every minister: Ask them this one question; can you legislate morality?
If they answer no they should be fired on the spot. In fact it is "morality" that we do legislate! Thou shalt not murder... how about that for morality? Thou shalt not steal... how about that for morality? Should pedophiles be allowed to marry? Does the "Reverend" want to legislate that morality or does he want to allow those perverts full access to their "sexual orientation?" It's a slippery slope when you choose not to legislate morality!!
The congregation did the right thing by abandoning this fool!
I posted this at the news website:
“If gay marriage is Scriptural, then why did God destroy Sodom and Gomorrah? If I read the Genesis account correctly, the cities weren’t destroyed until after the “bigots” left. It appears that the only thing standing between this nation and some serious Divine Judgement is the presence of us “bigots”.
Keep in mind, we don’t know how many of the remaining 1/3 were actually awake in church when he announced his new position.
These mushroom so-called churches are like weeds. Sooner or later they die anyway. There is but one rock and one Peter and one faith founded on one truth.
That's the problem. They aren't followers of White, they're followers of Christ. So they left a church where the minister preached apostasy.
lol.
That is true.
Central Lutheran in dowtown MPLS lost their steeple a year or so ago in a twister. This past Sunday, a 100 year old gay friendly church in S. MPLS burned to the ground after taking a lightning strike....

Peter?
My guy is named Jesus.
“And when we die, and you are sent to heaven for doing your conscience, and I am sent to hell for not doing mine, will you come with me, for fellowship?”
Then you must listen to your guy say to Peter: “upon this rock, I will build my Church....” He didn’t says “rocks” or “pebbles”
By Grace..we do not approve of their behavior, but we do pray and hope for their salvation-not their going to hell.
J.S.
I see “my church” there.
I haven’t seen any Catholic churches around here named after Jesus. Jesus is the ONLY saint there ever was.

.
Yes, the Rock, Jesus Christ!
.
You confuse saints with God. Saints are not made by the Church but the Church simply provides validation that they are in paradise. The first saint was the thief on the right who was assured “This Day Thou Shalt Be With Me In Paradise.”
Christ as God does not build on Himself. That would be an absurdity.

It truly is rare. Some are named “Christ the KIng,” but usually they are named after some dead sinner. There was one in our town that was appropriately named “Most Prescious Blood.” The pastor was a straight up guy Msgr. Varney, and when he died they burned his church down and built a new one, and named it “St Francis Asisi.”
Christ One, dead sinners, infinity.
Absurdity was your retort!
What he is building (still) is his church. Building on the only available foundation: himself.
Saint means believer.
Believers are ‘set apart,’ which is exactly what saint means.
The two thirds should have thrown him out. He just usurped hundreds of man years of donations and good faith Christianity from those families.
