Why is FR the slowest I visit? I have almost quit coming here, not that anyone cares, due to slow loading of a TEXT forum .
Good response to goseminoles.
I also find it ‘slow-loading’ at times. Of course, I’m on dial-up and used to turtle speed.
It’s worth the wait.
Relax
You forgot to tag your post with a 'MORON ALERT' so...let me do it for you.
Why is FR the slowest loading forum I visit.(vanity & MORON ALERT)
36 posts, slackers.
Do you have an anti-virus toolbar add-on in your browser?
There are several reasons, the most important being that FR is tailored to, and gives 'control' to the USER.
This takes more processing power than the stagnant websites you visit whose main goal is to sell laundry detergent.
How many websites do you visit that allow you to customize COMPLETELY your 'view' ?
Trayvon overload.
LOL..
And double posts, too.
Im almost sure it is related to whether or not you support the site. My lousy five bucks a year keeps the wheels greased nicely.
Have you tried updating your Flash plugin on your browser?
Sigh. You think FR isn’t dependent on their current ISP? They could be cut off from them at any time. Does FR have a data center hosting their equipment or is it in JR’s basement? They could be cut off from them at any time as well.
Amazon has a Customer Agreement and a Service Level Agreement that covers this kind of thing. They host numerous Fortune 500 companies, power Netflix, Pfizer, and Ericsson, among others, and generate about 1% of all internet traffic. To think they are interested in the PR backlash of terminating an account on the basis of political disagreement (as if they don’t host numerous conservative sites already) is ludicrous.
And for the sufficiently paranoid, such a service can be provisioned with local backups nightly in case anything does happen.
My point: To avoid useful technology because you perceive the world is out to get you is absurd.
We need new servers. We raised half the funds in the last FReepathon, but some posters objected to raising the other half in the current FReepathon.
Visit after 10 p.m. PDT and you will the speed is awesome!
You know, this site has always been a little slow loading for me, too. I have always attributed it to added security measures. Do you know how many rats and rat operatives would love to crash Free Republic or harm the site in any way possible?
Persoanlly, I can handle waiting an extra five or ten seconds if that’s what it takes to keep the place safe from scum.
Probably the one’s who don’t donate anyway.
Could be.
The other day I got an error msg. saying the Proxy Server was down.
I thought, “Cool, FR is using proxy servers? Send Janet Napolitano’s flying monkeys off to explore server farms in Tonga. Capital idea!”
This is a good question.
MittRomney.com's A record currently resolves to 107.21.98.213, as Arin points out is owned by AMAZON-EC2-8.
And, by the way, SarahPAC.com is hosted by Rackspace, probably the biggest competitor to Amazon AWS. But that proves that Sarah doesn't see this as an issue either.
