Zimmerman Defense Fund Raises $15K

George Zimmerman's new legal defense fund has raised over $15,000 this month, his attorney announced Wednesday.

The $15,424 will be used to cover Zimmerman's ongoing living expenses and legal costs while he battles a second-degree murder charge in the Trayvon Martin shooting case, his lawyer wrote on gzlegalcase.com.

The sum comes in addition to the $200,000-plus Zimmerman previously raised through a different website.

That fund was shut down last month by attorney Mark O'Mara in favor of gzlegalcase.com, which has hired an independent monitor to ensure the money is only used for reasonable living expenses and legal costs.

O'Mara posted that Zimmerman has spent $30,000 from the initial fund in his "complicated transition from a private life in Sanford, FL to his new life in hiding as the defendant in a high-profile case."

O'Mara said an additional $20,000 has been kept liquid for Zimmerman's expenses in the coming months.

The lawyer said some of the fund is expected to be used on legal costs soon, but that he has not yet been paid by Zimmerman.

According to gzlegalcase.com, the largest donation to Zimmerman was $3,000 and the lowest was one dollar.

Zimmerman has been living in hiding, possibly outside of the state, since his release on $150,000 bond late last month.

Zimmerman -- who is part white, part Hispanic -- was charged with second-degree murder on April 11 in the Feb. 26 shooting death of Martin, a 17-year-old African American who was unarmed at the time. Zimmerman claims he was acting in self defense after Martin attacked him.

The six-week interval between Martin's death and Zimmerman's arrest sparked nationwide protests about perceived racial injustice.

This case is a stolid reminder to us all. If you’re part white, and a black person attacks you, do not defend yourself. Do not fight back. You brought it upon yourself, because you’re a racist. The sensitive thing to do is let him crack your skull against the sidewalk. Yes you’ll die, but the Left will applaud your inaction. Or at least not pay any attention. Maybe the attacker will even go to jail, who knows.

That fund was shut down last month by attorney Mark O'Mara in favor of gzlegalcase.com:
The majority of the donations have come from the PayPal link on the www.gzdefensefund.com website, and about $3,700 has been received in the form of checks and money orders. Approximately $30,000 from the initial fund was spent making Mr. Zimmerman’s complicated transition from a private life in Sanford, FL to his new life in hiding as the defendant in a high-profile case. Approximately $20,000 has been kept liquid to fund Mr. Zimmerman’s living expenses for the next several months. None of the funds have yet been allocated for legal fees or defense costs; however it is expected for some of the funds to be used for this purpose in the near future.
which has hired an independent monitor to ensure the money is only used for reasonable living expenses and legal costs.
The article, typical of the genre, mentions that Martin was “unarmed” (not counting the sidewalk cement which he allegedly used as a weapon in a struggle with Zimmerman). And the article does not even directly mention the address of the site for donating to the Zimmerman defense, let alone link it as I have done above.

Not to mention that Zimmerman has a libel case against the Associated Press and its membership - and, I would argue, a RICO suit for triple damages (including Zimmerman’s legal fees and his lost income and his needed security precautions, and undoubtedly much more) against the AP, its members, and the Black Panthers who openly promoted lynching him.

I'm disgusted that it isn't a lot more.

People better realize that it could be anyone who chooses self defense in George Zimmerman's shoes.

A joke that bears repeating:

Two liberal-progressive do-gooders are walking down the street one evening when they spot a man laying in the gutter. He had been badly beaten, robbed and was moaning in pain. One liberal-progressive do-gooder turns to the other and says, “We have to find the person who did this. He needs help.”

Trayvon Martin Shooting:
George Zimmerman Judge Looks at Donations, Bail Amount
Prosecutors in the Trayvon Martin shooting case asked a Florida judge today to increase the bail amount for George Zimmerman after news that the 17-year-old's killer had raised more than $200,000 through a Paypal account on his website.
More like it.

Again, Zimmerman should sue NBC for broadcasting edited tapes making him out to have made a racist statement to the effect that Martin was suspicious because he was black when that is patently not what he said. That suit should easily net enough to cover Zimmerman’s expenses in this case.

The $15,000.00 is from the O’Mara site set up later.

Yeah - but someone might be “disgusted” at "only $15,000” having been contributed and might think a bit differently about $15,000 over and above $204,000. Totaling almost $220,000.

And the trouble is that the persecution is trying to tie that money up as bail money, to prevent the public from helping Zimmerman.
