A Michigan police department has made it clear that freedom of speech and the Constitutional right to peaceably assemble may only be enjoyed upon approval by the terror-promoting, Islamic group CAIR.
On January 26th, Michigan State Representative David Agema and others hosted an event entitled Constituting MichiganFounding Principles Act in the Allegan High School auditorium. The purpose of the event was to inform the public about the importance of honoring the United States Constitution, to recognize the internal threat to America posed by radical Muslims and the dangers to our free society caused by the imposition of Sharia law. (1)
As the Michigan House sponsor of HB 4769, The Restriction of Application of Foreign Laws Act it is Representative Agemas goal to ban the use of foreign or Sharia law by Michigan courts when those laws conflict with fundamental rights protected by the Constitution of the United States and the State of Michigan. (1)
But Michigan executive director of the Council on Islamic-American Relations (CAIR) Dawud Walid strongly opposes Agemas House bill and upon being advised of the planned program at the high school, wrote a letter to school officials complaining about the event.
It is important to note that CAIR was named an unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation case, the largest terror-funding proceeding in US legal history. An organization with proven ties to Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood which regularly uses its limitless financial resources to intimidate and silence critics with frivolous court actions, CAIR is managed nationally by radical Islamic convert Ibrahim Hooper.
It was under Hoopers direction that CAIR co-sponsored a conference at Brooklyn College during which the crowd was led in a song with lyrics proclaiming No to the Jews, Descendants of the Apes. Clearly a first class organization, is CAIR. (2)
Yet when school officials informed Allegan police that Michigan CAIR director Walid was upset, officers immediately descended on the high school to break up Representative Agemas dangerous attempt to celebrate and support the nations founding document.
On April 30th the Thomas More Law Center filed suit on behalf of Agema and event co-sponsors. This case seeks to protect and vindicate fundamental constitutional rights under the 1st and 14th Amendments to the Constitution and Michigan law wrote the Law Center in the filing. (3)
But even when a violation of Constitutional rights is as obvious as that perpetrated by Allegan police the Thomas More Law Center might have its hands full. One year ago the Department of Justice DECLINED to prosecute CAIR in the Holy Land Foundation case over cries of outrage from FBI and other DOJ employees who had worked on the indictment and in spite of ample evidence of the organizations guilt. Apparently, protocols from the Imam of Pennsylvania Avenue strongly discourage any exercise which might place Muslim advocates of terrorism in a bad light.
Its a disgrace that a radical, terror supporting, Islamic organization should have the authority to order the actions of Michigan police against law abiding American citizens. It will be imperative to follow the progress of this action through the federal court.
There is no need to further convince any true natural born Citizen of the good old USA that Islam is an oppressive anti-civil cult, an insidious scourge on our Judeo-Christian way of life and an unredeemable pustulant social cancer that would destroy our fundamental God given freedoms. Down with political correctness, I say. We must loudly proclaim the truth that Mohamed was nothing more than an evil murderous pedophile and just as loudly proclaim that those 70 percent of his adherents who, by their silence, passively support the 30 percent or so of his actively terroristic spawn share just as fully in their criminal guilt. Simply put, CAIR's evil meme simply should be righteously completely stamped out of existence. Sharia law has absolutely NO place in a free society.
This really smells
I wouldn’t count on this being over. Agema is one of the good guys and is unlikely to let this rest.
Agreed...Agema is one of the best we have. My FReeper GF lives in Agema’s district and we got to meet him at an event last summer. Great guy and American Patriot.
I know he supports requiring things like constitutional literacy and good solid early American history to graduate high school.
Are the facts that the high school gave permission for a political group to use the auditorium, and then while the assembly was in progress, the school administrators called the police to shut down the assembly?
Because of a letter sent to the administrators, and apparently received while the assembly was in progress, or so one would infer from this article?
If the letter was received in advance, then the administrators could simply withdraw permission and return fees, if they wished to cave in to CAIR.
Which of course would still be grounds for a lawsuit but not as dramatic as having the police come to stop the meeting.

From the article: Agema, R-Grandville, and others, filed a lawsuit Monday in U.S. District Court in Grand Rapids alleging that police prevented Kamal Saleem who characterizes himself as a former Muslim terrorist turned Christian from speaking in January at Allegan High School.
The lawsuit said that Allegan Police Chief Rick Hoyer ordered the event shut down after he learned that Muslim extremists put a $25 million bounty on Saleem.
Inference: CAIR and the extremists were playing good Muslim/bad Muslim. By all means, let the suit proceed and force the town to protect First Amendment rights.
Terrorist unAmerican Muslims and coward cops - a lovely combination.
