The time is now to see bobcats and other wildlife.
In some cases, they might be as close as your own backyard.
In response to last week’s story about the surge in bobcat sightings this spring, Chronicle readers reported many new encounters, including bobcats with newborn kittens.
Four Chronicle readers, Carl Skornik, Jeff Dauber, Bart Selby and Dan Fredrich were able to capture photographs of the animals and contributed them for this gallery.
Dauber’s photos came from his brother’s backyard in Cupertino, adjacent to Rancho San Antonio Open Space Preserve. The photos were taken from inside the house looking out, of course.
“This particular bobcat seems to come back to have her litter each year,” Dauber said.
Skornik had a similar experience, “I have them in my backyard all the time,” he said.

We have indigenous bobcats in Ohio but they don't look much like this spotted prima donna.
I agree - the first one (and again in 9) isn’t a bobcat and it does look like a Savannah. Two, three and four are bobcats, five - 8 looks more like a cougar. Picture 10 is a bobcat.
That first one looks more like a lynx, with the ear antennae. Also, bobcats aren’t that elongated and narrow. They’re a bit more foreshortened and stubby and not that orange either.
my husband took the coolest picture of a bobcat in a field. When you look at the picture all you see is the milo unless you look really closely and it’s face just seems to jump out at you.
Oh I wish I had a couple of those babies prowling around my place!

Jerry Clower said a Lynx is a souped up wildcat.
I think wolves and bobcats are the prettiest animals in the wild.

Photo #1 looks like the bobcats we have in the foothills of S. California — lots of spots, lean, back legs larger than the front. Sometimes we’ve heard them yowl at each other — the big dog took off after one recently thinking he’d catch it.
One “nice” kitty kept shooting back and forth across the trail we were hiking on teasing and driving the dogs crazy for about a mile — it shot out of the bushes on one side, tracked us down the hill and then shot out on the other side. It did this several times until it finally took off across a parking lot.
They WILL mate with your domestic cats. Make really beautiful cats, but they won’t sit on your lap.
