Former Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour (R) predicted the air war between President Obama and Mitt Romney would start in earnest soon, partly because Obama has the cash right now to define the presumptive GOP nominee before he can define himself.
"Obama didn't have to run a primary so he's sitting on a stack of money so tall that a show dog couldn't jump over it," Barbour said at an event Thursday hosted by the GOP-aligned Resurgent Republic. "He can't run on his record, and so the time to really try to run down the Republican, carpet bomb him, is about to start."
Barbour, who is involved with the Republican-affiliated outside groups American Crossroads and Crossroads GPS, suggested that if Obama goes on the attack before Romney is prepared to defend himself, the super-PACs would provide some air coverage for him.
"Everybody who wants a new president wants to keep the voters' attention on those policies and the results of those policies," Barbour told The Hill.
The groups have already raised a combined $100 million and have millions in cash on hand. They've been running ads attacking Obama for months, including an ad released this morning that attacked Obama's appearance on the "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" TV show.
The Obama campaign team has around $100 million cash on hand, according to April fundraising reports, while Romney has about $10 million cash on hand. Romney and the Republican National Committee recently announced a joint fundraising effort.
Thanks very much. I am the first post on that thread.
You have no idea how much $$$$ he has. Much more than Obozo. A friend of mine in politics who is well connected told me the cash is coming in for Remulak at a rate he did not believe.
Remulak? Isn't that where the Coneheads came from?
Yes it is! My name for Romney is Myth Remulak.
If its between those two we dont have a choice and it looks like the Republicans have done it to us again.
Bull crud. We all should vote for Virgil Goode. A good man who deserves all our support. Romney does not deserve anything from us. Down with Romney!!!!!
What was Harding’s strategy?
Hello Onyx! Wow. I have been so busy the last month at the Naval Academy. I love working there even as a civilian....lol. I am wondering your thoughts on Virgil Goode. I have heard some good things from people, but also a little negative but nothing like Romney. Sad to see so many going for Romney...Well I hope you have a great Weekend. It has been raining all day here. We need it though. Take care FRiend,
Sincerely,
Bob
I don’t know. I just know the result. I guess he knew a lot of people and the initial front-runner could never get above 35% of the delegates. I imagine Harding slowly won them over.
It was 1920. It’s not really going to happen today. I was being sarcastic.
Ron Paul sites are promoting a “Harding Strategy” for Ron Paul.
He won’t have the overwhelming monetary advantage he had in the primaries against GOP opponents. And the MSM is a free attack dog for the Obama machine as well.
Yeah!! That’s the ticket. Vote for Virgil Goode, he will probably get all of 500 votes.
Yeah!! Thats the ticket. Vote for Virgil Goode, he will probably get all of 500 votes.
He will get more than 500 just from FREEPERS who are patriotic good people. Maybe you should make it 501. I pray to God you are not voting for that creep Romney.
He will have big oil and industry PAC money and that is not in Obuggery’s favor.
The actual battle will only be fought in a few states.
Perhaps no more than 5 or 6.
I see funding as pretty much irrelevant because of that.
Both sides will have more than enough $$ to drive the voters stark raving mad with commercials.
The rest of the states are pretty much locked in these days.
I certainly would not vote FOR Romney. I am voting AGAINST Obama and Romney is the only standing between him and another 4 years.
Goode hasn’t a Chinaman’s Chance.
