The nation needs the so-called Buffett Rule and can’t afford to keep giving tax cuts to the wealthiest Americans “who don’t need them and didn’t even ask for them,” President Barack Obama said in his weekly address.
“As many Americans rush to file their taxes this weekend, it’s worth pointing out that we’ve got a tax system that doesn’t always uphold the principle of everyone doing their part,” Obama said.
His address caps a week-long effort by the administration in promoting the proposal that would require millionaires to pay a minimum of 30 percent of their income in taxes. The Senate is expected to bring the proposal up for a vote next week, and Obama implored “some Republican politicians to get on board with where the country is.”

Increasing taxes on the rich is a trickle down policy. Why don’t they just cut taxes for the rest of us?

Let everyone pay 30% in income taxes on all income with no exceptions. Including handouts from the government.
That way we can “uphold the principle of everyone doing their part”. Because right now we have a large percentage of people not doing “their part”. They are leaching off others while demanding more.

12% would be enough to fund the government we need. 17% would fund the government we have. Why would you want to pay 30%?
If 10% percent is enough for God Almighty, it should be enough for government. I am personaly opposed to income taxes and would prefer a sales tax or preferable an import duty like our forefathers instituted, but since income taxes are the common means of funding government, no deduction, all income from any source, including investments or any time money passes through the hands of two people or institutions or any derivation there of a 10% tax should to payed by every person great or small, rich or poor for if you only take from the public treasury you have know incentive to curb corruption as it is your bread and butter!
