I can’t speak for the Baptists, but as a Catholic, I have never been threatened with excommunication or damnation over anything, much less a personal decision that may go against a priest’s advise, but not the teaching of the Church.

who got pregnant was told by her bishop the very same thing. He came to her in the hospital, and said she would not be welcomed back if she did not relinquish the baby for adoption. Her parents reinforced that after talking to that wards bishop.
