Got that? Since 1988 The Communist Party in America hasn't even bothered to field their own candidate, they decided they'd be better off backing Democrats.
So when Allen West suggests there are Marxists in the Progressive Caucus of Congress (which is filled with Democrats) is he trying to bring back McCarthyism?
No, he isn't.
It’s delusional NOT to believe the ‘rats are ideologically commies.
Not just in Congress — EVERYWHERE.
West DIDN’T say they were communist in their ideology or outlook, he claimed that 80 US congressmen were actual member of the Communist PARTY, and yes that’s not only irresponsible and delusional , but literally McCarthyism by definition.
It was a stupid thing to say because a) it severely damages his credibility on important issues on which he speaks out and b) makes him look like he’s about 20 year behind the times as he should well know Communism is an ideology smoldering on the ash-heap of history. Islamo-fascism is the clear and present danger in today’s world
The junior senator from Wisconsin was heartily disliked for being the cop-on-the-beat who exposed Communists.
Mrs. Iselin to Sen. Iselin: I keep telling you not to think. You're very, very good at a great many things, but thinking, hon', just simply isn't one of them. You just keep shouting "Point of Order, Point of Order" into the television cameras and I will handle the rest.Sen. Iselin: I mean, the way you keep changing the figures on me all the time. It makes me look like some kind of a nut, like an idiot."
Mrs. Iselin, holding a newspaper: Well, you're going to look like an even bigger idiot if you don't get in there and do exactly what you're told...Who are they writing about all over this country and what are they saying? Are they saying: "Are there any Communists in the Defense Department?" No, of course not, they're saying: "How many Communists are there in the Defense Department?" So just stop talking like an expert all of a sudden and get out there and say what you're supposed to say.
Sen. Iselin: I have here a list of the names of 207 persons who are known by the Secretary of Defense as being members of the Communist Party... I demand an answer, Mr. Secretary. There will be no covering up, sir, no covering up. You are not going to get your hands on this list. And I deeply regret having to say...

Well, well, well... it seems “Lex Gabba” got zotted.
‘Bye Lex! Don’t let the door hit you where the good Lord split you!
LucyT, and myself started posting about the “Progressive Caucus” in October of 2005 IIRC, but few thought it worthy of concern at that time. I believe it is the “Progressive Caucus” that Congressman West is concerned with, and yes they are Communists, and NO it wasn’t anywhere near as stupid a thing for the Congressman to state as is your post.
I’d recommend you learn about the Left before you attack the right at FR.
he claimed that 80 US congressmen were actual member of the Communist PARTY
****
All you have to do to join a party, is think you are a member.
The Dems vote like that.
My view, modified from P. J. O’Rouke “Obamunism is communism one drink at a time” as time goes on the taste will turn increasingly bitter.
Not so much as you seem to believe. Probably true in the former USSR but the world is checkered with tin pot dictators that keep the old faith alive.

PS There was an old joke that went something like this;
What is the difference between Russia and the United States?
Answer; The Communist party is illegal in Russia.
Communism may, in one sense, be foundering on the ash heap of history, but it is succeeding under the guise of progressivism, environmentalism. Just read Aaron Klein’s the Manchurian President to see how many fellow traveling marxist groups there are. Congressman West did refer to the platform of the Democratic Progressive Caucus. They are commies!
There are; even if it was just one.
They forgot Jimmy Carter even though it was kept under cover.
