Exactly what would you teach them about how to deal with strange men following them in a car (after dark) and then getting out of the car to follow them on foot?
I would have a hard time believing you if you answered, "I'd tell my kids to 'just chat' with the stranger following them at night.".
Nope, you'd tell them to put distance between themselves and the stranger. This is what Martin did...he ran.
Then you'd (hopefully) tell them to fight if the stranger got too close.
Yes, I reared my nephew who is now 20-years old.
He is always courteous. If he was in a gated community and someone asked why he was there, he would politely answer the query. If he was on a public street and approached by a stranger, the outcome would be different (my nephew has a black belt in Kadjukenbo Kung-fu). More than one idiot has eaten cement in this town thinking the kid was an easy target.
Mr.Zimmerman has, as a member of community watch, a history of informing the Sanford police of questionable or suspicious activity in that gated community. He does not, as far as I can ascertain, have a history of violent confrontations, something community watch folks are warned against doing.
