I’ll admit it...I’ve got a little bit of a chip on my shoulder, when it comes to California.
Why?
I don’t like it when it affects me. As you pointed out, California has a large economy, and represents a huge market. Therefore, many things I buy (from automobiles to dish detergent) have somehow been affected by California’s zany regulations. And, their market is so big, manufacturers bite the bullet, and comply...and many times we all get stuck.
Then there seems to be an endless stream of weird rulings coming out of the 9th circuit. Everybody knows that a case against the flag, against the cross, against God, etc. is best started within the 9th circuit...and since the supremes don’t rule on every case, we all get stuck with the results.
Now this last one is a kick in the pants: The idea has been floated around that the states need a ‘bailout’, to deal with their economic shortfalls. I know California is beautiful (I’ve visited). But, I know I can’t afford to live there. A cursory look at housing costs alone shows me that I can’t afford it. Therefore, I live in a place with nowhere near the ocean and the sunshine of California...and it does annoy me when somebody suggests my federal tax dollars should help pay for someone else to live that lifestyle.
I’ve never advocated ‘getting rid’ of California, or anything like that, because its not going to happen....and is just not realistic in any way. However, I will continue to watch what happens there with great interest...and give my opinions of the situation. In the past, especially during the election, there have been those who told people like me to shut up, since I didn’t live there. Well, I may not live there; but, for many of the same reasons you listed above, all of our futures are tied to California, since it is so large and populated...so I don’t feel shy at all about giving my input.
Well your intellectual dishonesty via Projection is not helping your point.
I live in NY (Western NY to be exact) and can attest to a large number of people hating this state (myself included). So you are being dishonest about “Nobody hating us”.
Maybe you might want to look at your representatives and the crap they have brought to the table in the Health Care Debate or how about the number of cities that hate the military? Those 2 alone bring much deserved hate to your state. 99% of my dislike of CA comes from these clowns you are sending to Washington. How about the 9th Circus Court?
We detest liberal lies and CA, NY, IL, MA seem to be full of the lying left. When so many use the dishonest Saul Alinsky tactics, like they seem to do in those states, of course they are hated by those of us perfectly willing to have an HONEST debate on issues. There is middle ground which will never be found because Marxists/Communists/Socialist can never tell the truth as the truth will tell everyone their beliefs have always been a complete failure.
All of us do not wish to live in La, La land with, enviro-wackos, feminazis, Hollywierd, non-English speaking illegals,... CA is a beautiful state with some very ugly minds.
Everyone, here, is firmly convinced that The Usurper is going to steal the Election, just like the Godfather stole the city mayoral election.
You should understand. Natives of the Chicago area believe that ALL cops and politicians must and can be bought.
I say must because, in Chicago, for example, you have a broken curb, a downed power line, or any other city task, if you take $100 to the alderman, it will get fixed. If you don't, seasons will come and go, and that curb will never get fixed.
If your niece needs a job, go to the alderman, slip a little cash into his re-election fund, and she will get a call from Metra, the area Transit system.
THAT'S the Chicago Way... It's why I'm not staying.
A minor correction, and perhaps a nit, but it should have been written:
'...a flood of criminal illegal aliens, both peaceful and violent...'
Breaking into this Country illegally is a crime.
Can this possibly be true? I dont think so.

It is true.
Consider this-
California is simultaneously losing industrial base with it's attendant jobs and economic activity, losing it's tax base as productive people either move out of the state or become unemployed, and adding entitlement costs , workers comp costs, and unemployment costs.
A lot of the costs are a double whammy - converting productive people paying into the system into people receiving being supported by the system.
Exponential growth of shortfall is very possible but the time constant for the decay will be very short given California's already pathological budget problems.
Southern Cal has a cancer that is spreading. It is mainly located in LA and LA county. Jeff Stone, county supervisor of Riverside County, proposed breaking off a new state, South California. It would include all the southern counties except LA county.
Doing this would be like doing surgery where you remove 75% of a malignant growth, then go after the remaining 25% with chemo and radiation.
There are fairly conservative and patriotic cities and counties in California. We don’t have enough legal population to out-vote the large population centers that are sucking us dry. These places send representatives to the State Legislature to keep the process going.
I dislike having to state a problem without a solution too, it goes against my training and experience. Perhaps bankruptcy is the only solution. With no more bail-outs from the other states via DC, that might happen.
All he needs to do is kick the can past the election. Once he’s done that he can always scare enough Pubbies into voting for it with Chicken Little rhetoric, just like the TARP bailouts.
