Santorum Leads Close 3 Way Race In NC
Rick Santorum's taken the lead in the Republican Presidential race in North Carolina with 31% to 25% for Mitt Romney and 23% for Newt Gingrich. A month ago Gingrich and Romney were tied for the lead with Santorum running 10 points behind.
Romney's staying competitive in North Carolina despite the fact that GOP voters there are pretty tepid toward him. Only 43% have a favorable opinion and an equal 43% see him negatively. That makes him less popular than both Gingrich (45/41) and Santorum (58/29).
Romney's really benefiting from Gingrich continuing to be strong enough in the South that he splits the conservative vote with Santorum, unlike in other parts of the country where conservatives are increasingly unifying around Santorum as the alternative to Romney. Among voters identifying as 'very conservative' Santorum leads Gingrich 35-32 with Romney at 19%.
If Gingrich dropped out of the race by the time North Carolina votes Santorum would have a much clearer lead with 43% to 33% for Romney and 10% for Paul. The race is still pretty fluid with only 52% of voters saying that they will definitely vote for their current choice.

NO MORE Newt, Santorum wins
This is an old poll.
More recent poll:
Romney 31%
Santorum 27%
NO Newt... Obama wins..
You seem to think that saying that is going to bring in the Newt Voters. Problem is that nobody is voting for Newt in anything. Two states. That is it. 19 electoral college total. He can’t win the General without people voting for him. It is clear that American voters are not interested in Newt. I am sorry about that for his supporters but you have to wake up and get some reality. If you can’t win more than 2 states in a Republican Primary, how does he win the General?
Correct.
But if Gingrich pulls out, Santorum jumps to a 4% lead.
Memo to Gingrich: Get Out!

Personally, I think it is over. Romney will have the nomination. But I don’t expect either Santorum or Gingrich to give up imminently. Gingrich will give up when the money runs out, which will happen when Adelson throws in the towel. Santorum will give up after it becomes apparent that the withdrawal of Gingrich is not going to make him the nominee.
I just watched the FoxNews Sunday after the show video and Brit Hume said Romney has too many votes to not win.
If Romney wins it proves that the America I grew up imagining really is a figment of my imagination.
I do think that it’s never going to be the same. I would not blame it on Romney, though.
I think Romney is the nominee, and despite the fact that I spent 3 years fighting him, I’m thinking now that he’s the only chance we have of beating Obama. I don’t know if he’ll be any better than Obama, but I think we’ve got to go with him, and if he turns out to be the turd that I think he might, then we’ll trash him at that time. Maybe we’ll get lucky, and he’ll surprise us. But I’m convinced that neither Santorum nor Gingrich can beat Obama.
NC in 1976 gave Reagan a new lease on running. But Tarheelers may think Two-State Newt is competitive.
Then OBama wins in November.
My sad and cynical opinion is that Romney will win the nomination because stronger candidates already know what we all fear: that the damage is done and is likely irreversible.
Suppose your dream candidate were to secure the nomination and win in November. S/He then faces an economy in shambles, a mountain of debt and obligation, a demoralized and depleted military, foreign despots with nuclear arms, and, at home, a dependent underclass that will take to the streets if denied its wants.
Who would feel up to that job?
I have no answers, only tears.
Isn’t it pathetic that we wind up with a choice between Obama and Romney? Obama has proven that no matter how bad you are as President, the party will still run you for the second term. If we get Romney, we are stuck with him for the next election, as well.
If that happens, yes, it's pathetic that you and others on this forum contibuted to it...
..with your constant ridicule & innuendo against Rick Santorum and his wife and children.
I've noticed you pipe in with the others when the negativity starts flying.
You and PPP and the rest of the establishment lovers have been pushing the Newt should quit meme forever. Give it up. Ain’t gonna happen.
Needed to be said. What has happened here is as bad as what I’ve read in the comments on Huff Post, DU, and liberal new sites. The way a good man has been treated here is really despicable. I hope they’re happy when they’re stuck with Romney, although I’ve actually seen some of Newt’s supporters say they would vote for Romney over Santorum anyway.
...I just reread through your posts and noticed you said....
..'My son is one of the fallen heroes'...
I am sorry to read this......we owe him a debt of gratitude
If my previous post upset you, I am sorry.....you've been through enough.
Newt would feel up to that job, and better yet, BE up to that job.
Can’t say the same for anyone else who comes to mind.
That works both ways, but, yes, we should all try to chill out a bit.
