Thing is, a cheap nuke wouldn’t be all that hard. The first bomb over Japan was the “bullet” type. The basic idea is about the same as pushing a donut hole back into the donut to get critical mass. No fancy timers, switches, hi tech explosives needed.

Good chance you’d end up glowing in the dark after trying to machine the materials, though!

Plutonium yes, but uranium is easy to work with.
