Santorum Takes Lead in Gallup’s National Polling FEB 16, 2012 • BY JEFFREY H. ANDERSON

Rick Santorum, who trailed Mitt Romney by 20 points eight days ago, has now taken the lead in Gallup’s national polling. In the Gallup poll released on February 8, Romney led Santorum by the tally of 37 to 17 percent. In the current Gallup poll, Santorum has moved into the lead — 32 to 31 percent.

Newt Gingrich has 14 percent support in the latest poll (taken from February 11th to 15th), down from 21 percent eight days ago. Ron Paul has 10 percent support, down 2 points from eight days ago.

The poll released on February 8th, which showed Romney leading by 20 points, was the first Gallup poll taken entirely after Romney’s 14-point win on January 31st in the Florida primary.

Wit Gingrich’s favorability ratings dropping like a lead brick in a still lagoon, it may now be wise for him to withdraw and guarantee a sure fire defeat for Romney.

Sorry, but Santorum isn't electable. If Newt dropped we would be stuck with Rick enlightening us on the evils of birth control, gambling, etc. Those are giant loser issues. Newt needs to stick it out and wait for the Santorum collapse which is days or weeks away. Once people realize Santorum is doubling as a priest running for President most of them will run as far away from him as possible.

This will happen before the Michigan primary.

The media is already fueling the fire.

That's funny. You are telling me that the guy running away in the polls at a critical time is unelectable while the dude who comes in 3rd or 4th and has unbelievably high unfavorables is going to somehow overtake both the 2nd and 1st place guys and win. Do you do stand up down at the Holiday Inn by the airport on the weekends? I bet you just have them rolling in the aisles.

Polls showed after FL that had Santorum dropped, Romney would have been the beneficiary. Newt has unfathomable negative ratings and is 15 points behind Obama. Obama leads Santorum and Romney by 8 points.

I’m sorry, but Santorum simply cannot win Iowa.

Oh, wait....

But even if he does win Iowa, he doesn’t have any ground game past Iowa.

Oh, wait...

If he does win Iowa, he doesn’t have any money to compete with Romney’s millions.

Oh, wait...

Rick needs to drop out, since it’s obvious that Newt is the only one who can beat Romney.

Oh, wait...

He’s done with. There is no way that he will be able to compete in places like Missouri, Minnesota, and Colorado.

Oh, wait...

There is no way that he can amass enough delegates, since he likely won’t even be on the ballot in places like Ohio and Illinois and Tennessee and North Dakota.

Oh, wait...

He doesn’t have a chance in the South or in Super Tuesday states like Tennessee.

Oh, wait...

There is no way that he will be able to compete in big market states like Michigan and Arizona and California.

Oh, wait...

I find the deification of Santorum disturbing and naive. It would be like trying to run Mr. Rogers.

That's just not going to happen...Rick Santorum is simply the man of the hour and his turn to run for awhile. The vetting has just begun.

Meanwhile it's never wise to underestimate Newt's gamemanship. He knows when to sit back and when to step up. It's still a long while before this is a done deal for any candidate.

I prefer Newt over Santorum only because Ricks from my state and I'm all to familiar with the "real" Santorum. No thank you....and as this vetting continues people will understand why PA. booted him...and it had little to do with the weakness of Republicans at that time.

Am glad the vetting has arrived for Santorum...he needs it before too many get the wool pulled over their eyes.

Could it be that Santorum and Newt have concluded that they both need to stay in the race in order to prevent Romney from getting a majority? Perhaps they are working together.

The right thing is not for Gingrich to go. Santorum is running a popularity horserace. I’m looking for someone who will do the right things for America. Santorum ain’t it.

Please snap out of it. We already have to fight the left. Santorum doesnt talk about contraceptives all the time. He did not start this fight but I hope he ends it.
