Another Global Warming Oops Moment
Orange Punch, an Orange County Register commentary blog ^ | 2-6-2012 | Mark Landsbaum

Today we have yet another example of what was unintended, but probably could have been seen coming had our government know-it-alls not been blinded by their ideological mission.

We call these Global Warming Oops Moments. There’s no shortage of them.

“While President Barack Obama is touting clean energy such as wind farms, a group of American scientists are raising alarm bells that wind turbines increase the effects of global warming, as well as killing birds that fall prey to the deadly spinning blades,” says an item from Dallasblog.com.

There is a vast difference between saying temperatures have increased and man has something to do with it and temperatures are increasing dangerously and it’s man’s fault. If you spit in the ocean, you increase its mass. And about as meaningfully as man’s contribution to temperatures.

Well put.

I love it when liberals trip over their conflicting agendas.

I heard snow in Rome and record cold weather all the way down to north Africa.

The death toll was 300 as of this morning.

Where is the environmental study determining how many wind farms can be constructed in the world before they affect the wind patterns that affect “climate”. /half sarc

I thought that part of the zeitgeist of the entire environmental movement is “the environment” is affected by any activity “in the environment” - as in the “butterfly effect”.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Butterfly_effect

It seems the Liberals/Progressives/Marxists and “environmentalists” do profess “the butterfly effect” concept, when it comes to the environment, but then only want to apply it when it suits them.

Before they mandate something on a grand scale, why don't they build and evaluate a few of pilot installations to see if it's even possible to break even?
There are plenty of windmills in northern Texas. How are they working out, economically?
I know we built several wave power generators along the coast years ago. Are any of them still in operation?
Photovoltaic cells have been known for years. I've seen them on houses. Any owners out there who can tell us if they really saved money?

FYI; The University of California at Davis is offering a class about the effects on Agriculture from GLOBEL WARMING. Could this be called “higher indoctrination?”

I did save money for my shack in the mountains. Electric co-op wanted more to run power to the property than the panels and equipment cost.

The physics are clear!
You don't get something for nothing.

The energy absorbed by the blades of the windmill is not available to move the air to the leeward side.

The results impact temperature and humidity in that region.

Getting electricity installed in a new house ain't cheap, usually it's baked into the price of a new house and regular folks never see that bill.
Especially if there is a significant distance between the house and the nearest road.
The transformer alone costs something like 9 grand.
So I guess there is a legitimate market for isolated dwellings.
How about those who tried to augment their electric supply with solar cells or a small windmill. Was it worth it?

Don’t miss the unpublicized benefit of wind turbines:

Run the fridge only when the sun is shining or the wind is blowing? That’s not going to work. I have experimented with glass mat batteries and find that they store a decent charge and last for years. But I’d need to live in a sunnier location than Northern Virginia and buy 1000 more pounds of batteries, if I wanted to get off the grid.

. . . killing birds that fall prey to the deadly spinning blades . . .

Well, in my humble opinion, any bird that is stupid enough to fly into a slowly turning, "deadly" wind turbine blade deserves to have its genes removed from the gene pool.
