The scars of childbirth were still healing on Amelia Reyes Jimenez's stomach in 2008 when police came to her Phoenix apartment and took her three-month-old daughter from her arms.
Three and a half years later, Reyes Jimenez and her four children have become statistics in the U.S. crackdown on illegal immigration. Each year thousands of children of undocumented immigrants, like Amelia's kids, wind up in foster care when their parents are arrested for immigration violations. Some are even adopted by U.S. citizens while their parents are held in federal detention centers or deported back to their native countries.
Reyes Jimenez's son and three daughters are now living in foster care in Phoenix, and are awaiting possible adoption. Reyes Jimenez is back in Mexico, her parental rights terminated by an Arizona judge, and she cries when she remembers the raid that began it all.

Well maybe this will stop the whole anchor baby thing.

They should get a clue. Having babies here do NOT make them legal. They should have their babies in Mexico where they belong.
Simple solution, send her children back to Mexico with her.
Easy way to prevent this: The parents agree to deportation and take the kids with them.
But they evidently value their continued ability to mooch off the American taxpayer more than they do family unity.
Question: When are we going to read sob stories about families broken up and kids left behind when parents are arrested and sent to prison for ordinary crimes like dealing drugs or tax evasion? Why is illegal immigration such a special crime worthy of this sympathy to the exclusion of all others?
If she hadn’t have been here illegally, none of this would have happened. I hope she warns other thinking of entering illegally.
That is a very good question.
Cry me a river. Don’t do the crime then you won’t have to suffer the punishement.
You go shoot somebody, steal from somebody, or illegally enter someplace and you go to jail. Yeah your kids enter the system and quite properly so.
This is how things should be.
Oh, and if we deport you - You might be allowed to take your kids with you IF its convenient to the US and IF you sign away their claim to American citizenship.
This is so wrong on so many levels. Is the father an illegal? If not, why were the children not put in his custody? The son is 13 and the daughters are older - all are US Citizens (born here) so she has been an illegal for over a decade.
Anyone who plans to adopt these children should be aware of this tragedy.
IMHO all the children should be sent to their mother until she can meet all legal requirements, apply for a legal visa and return - with a sponsor and a job.
I refuse to read any article that uses the phrase “undocumented immigrants.”
It’s “criminal aliens,” “illegal aliens,” “felons” “tresspassers” and the like.
It is beginning to look like being an illegal alien does involve risk. I know how they can eliminate that risk.
We had no problem shipping Elian Gonzalez back to a brutal regime; why is it so difficult for us to put these families on a one way train to Chihuaua? The kids are citizens (whether we like it or not); they can come back when they are adults, if they want.
Newt will put an end to this.
Exactly. Keep families together - deport the whole family.
Americans who adopt children against the will of illegal alien parents are no less than kidnappers.
And it’s no credit to the United States or to our justice system that courts are complicit in stealing children for American parents desperate to have a baby.
This is wrong.
Dare I say the kids will likely grow up far better than they would under her illegal mother's guidance?
Well, I guess it depends on who the US Citizens in question are...
She can stop making babies as an illegal alien in this country. She wanted kids who were American citizens? Well, they are and she’s not. I’d ship’em all back to Mexico together- maybe this policy will make them rethink ‘anchor babies’.
So true, she knew this could happen - but as Americans are not bringing enough babies to term, who’s going to take care of feeding and cleaning you when you get old? The unionized?
Want to tackle the deficit - make these folks legal and tax them like the rest of us. They’re staying here anyway.
