SHTF Planning: 20 Lessons from the Streets of Cairo
SHTF Plan ^ | 2/1/12 | Mac Slavo

Posted on 02/01/2012 9:18:43 PM PST by Kartographer

From the somewhat guilt filled comforts of Greece, I have been thinking about what I learned from the recent Cairo SHTF experience. I am not putting myself forth as an expert of any sort and, frankly, many or even most items on the list below might be flat out wrong….who the hell knows. We were in Cairo from Jan 25th until late Feb 3rd when the neighborhood gunfire became full-auto and regularly occurring. At that point, we decided that Friday prayers (the next day) might not yield a pleasant experience. We had no way of knowing that we had already seen the worst.

Seriously, WTH is the deal with Shiite?

Effluent Hits the Fan? Not enough umph.

Crap hits the fan?

Codswallop hits the fan? Whatever that means. It sounds nastier.

Dung hits the fan? Dung Zhoau Ping ...Maybe.

Yuh All gotta be kidding me. The word Shiite finds it etymology in the Germanic languages and has been around in the written languages for some 600 years?

Pretty sure it was around even longer than that but some dude by the name of Gutenberg made it possible to print a whole bunch of crap that previously had to be written by scribe toads who spent their days with a Quill and some parchment writing bunk that only the elite and erudite wizards of the Feudal age could read.

I’ve actually heard people in or from Europe use the following terms schite or scheisse(See hot chick from Bourne Identity)

This whole moral indignation and petty piousness smells like...well, you can guess.

The world ain’t all roses out here and the parts that are come with thorns and if you get pricked(can we use that word?) hard enough, one might express their pain with “Shiite!”. Which is not to say what the fertilizer is made of.

Can we correctly use the word “Shit” when making compost? Or is this just a bunch of manure?

We should all stop acting like mushrooms and pretending everyone should fit your moral ideal or that SHTF stuff won’t happen....it does, all the time.

I have been in floods and tornadoes when I lived in Oklahoma, even hail storms. One hail storm, in particular, had hail as large as gold balls, stuff was breaking everywhere and barely got my car into a concrete parking garage as I watched in amazement the damage being done to everything.

Scared the Shiite out me but, I was situationally aware and prepared, having heard of the possible danger on the news.

So I had planned my safety that day on the possibility that this even would occurr and it did.

Another time, I missed the riots of San Francisco by 10 minutes. I had already been a little amp’d by going to L.A. a day before to find a friend, who I was worried might have been caught up in their mess.

So I quickly assessed from which direction the mobs where coming to Pier 39 and I beat street the opposite end of Embarcadero.

Turned on the radio to listen to the destruction going on by these miscreants.

Still, there have been other times I have snowed in, while in my car. I was prepared my friend wasn’t but he was damn glad I had everything covered.

Why, just last night I had to move some things and was glad to have 150 ft of paracord and some nifty Nite Ize Figure 9 Carabiners to make securing my load(not my crap, well the stuff is ..mostly but my belongings) easier.

I was able to exert force on the ropes easily without resorting to some fancy rope work and I wouldn’t have been able to pull so hard and tie quickly due to torn rotator cuff.

When disaster strikes it ain’t no time for moralizing or being prissy, pious poosies.

You don’t want any Shiite in your way or even some dumb Shiite who can’ figure out how to move or won’t listen to you as you give orders that might save their life. Some times people are scared Shiiteless and that’s okay.

That’s why there people like us out here to save some sorry ass who can’t get his Shiite together or didn’t do Shiite to prepare for what will absolutely happen:

Regional disasters.

Storm related disasters.

travel disasters.

Earthquake disasters.

medical disasters.

Etc, Etc, Etc....

Don’t get caught with your Shiite hanging out and unprepared.

Get your act and your Shiite together and prepare.

After all, you do prepare for dinner each evening because dinner is going happen just as surely as there will be a SHTF.

NO, I disagree with your premise entirely.

When the SHTF it is not being used in the expletive form.

It is being used as a noun to describe a terrible event and the terrible mess.

It is the easiest way to communicate a dire circumstance.

Doo-doo doesn’t seem to it justice nor does effluent.

Actually if you go through my posting history you will find quite a few posts of mine on the preparedness threads over the years, in my case, I have been at it so long that I pretty well have seen it all a 1000 times, I already own so many books, and so much gear associated with it and now only look for the occasional new piece of info related to a technique or gear.

The excerpt from the article was removed for some reason, I think that says something.

The electric fan was invented 126 years ago, the saying is nothing new to anyone,I’m not interested in individuals using it among themselves, (although it is growing quite dated).

To start adopting it as the name of our movement, to use it in our publications which are a permanent body of work, to make it a formal part of our public self description is new, and I can’t believe that any conservative would be fighting tooth and nail to defend taking that deliberate action.

A man in a crowded bar needed to defecate but couldn’t find a bathroom, so he went upstairs and used a hole in the floor.

Returning, he found everyone had gone except the bartender, who was cowering behind the bar.

When the man asked what had happened, the bartender replied, ‘Where were you when the shit hit the fan?’ “

You want the movement to officially become named as such, you want to promote the formal usage of swearing in our publications and writings, or are you talking about people just talking to each other?

I hve heard the words snafu and fubar in very polite conversation, most don’t know what they stand for and are part of the american language.

The movement isn’t being officially named that.

BTW, another good Christian man by the JW Rawles used the term to aptly described when a bunch of Shit goes down.

Yawn....

Can’t wait til Monday when you are bored with the boring subject and you go another Holy Crusade.

Here’s on fer yuh.... Pissing the wrong corner.(that’s actually offensive to people as well.)

LOL

Just messing with you but, really, this ain’t going nowhere.

Gotta run to the office and do some work.

I’ll check in later.

OK, you win, “We’ll” call it:

OGPATTKMIBBS

“Oh Gosh, People are trying to kill me I better buy soup” movement...

Nah, SHTF works fine for people finding articles about when the SHTF in the past and what to expect in the future, along with all the other phrases and wording to steer people to materials they are seeking out on the net.

For a ‘Prepper’ you sure are a ‘panties wadding’ delicate sort....

Most of us who pay attention to the need to prepare for The Troubles are much more concerned with what’s going to hit the fan than whether an old and formerly acceptable Anglo Saxon word or la di da words such as “excrement” is used; which word actually revolts me more than the four letter word for it.

But what really revolts me is the state of the world and our country!

I didn’t remove the posted list from the article, nor ask for it to be removed, yet it was removed.

Somehow the survivalist movement did just fine for decades, with it’s writers merely writing like grown-ups and professionals.

Schools were operated, books and articles written, magazines published, the movement was more conservative then, I guess it lacked the cutting edge, Bill Maher type modern edginess, the teen cool factor.

Big deal - the full article was removed from the thread - better to have everyone click the link anyways (there’s 247 comments there)- the article title still stands in all its “SHTF” warning glory.

Selco and his friends ramped up the acronym lately,(even though the phrase has been around for decades) if you have a problem with it go tell Selco that “SHTF” is a naughty phrase and he should pick something nicer when he portrays going through the Balkan Wars to help people who want to Prep to be prepared.

He isn’t talking about a civilized situation - hence the perfect use of SHTF.....Preppers aren’t preparing for a civilized outcome - hence the perfect connection to the acronym SHTF.

(I still don’t understand why you just can’t say “stuff” in reference - it’s an ‘S’ word too...throughout the decades this term has been used, some even say ‘Soup’)

Watch out or someone will misunderstand the ‘s’ in your abbreviation and start a crusade to keep The Preparedness Movement from using icky language. You did keep your pinky extended when you posted that, right?

I checked and if there are such post the have to go back far over 5 years ago.

Unless you are involved its not your movement. You add none of your ‘vast’ knowledge to the discussion and in fact you take the discussion away from the subject and make it about you.

I repeat you are not making any on going effort to help support or teach preparedness/survival all you do is screech at those that do.

“I wish you well in your efforts to save them from fowl language, meanwhile I will continue mine to keep them alive.”
