Good solid advice on the sodium bicarbonate. To further the natural type solutions I'd add that my bug out kit contains:
- Bag of Red Mill Baking Soda
- 16oz Magnesium Chloride
- 8oz Lugors iodine
- 2oz Nascent iodine
- 2 months of multi's
- 8oz 33% hydrogen peroxide
- Quart of saline
- Cayenne pepper (in case of heart attack)
- C
- D
The nascent iodine could be used in an IV in a pinch, but the Lugors is good for oral and topical use. A nebulizer can come in handy (if you have current) when there are no anti-biotics. You can directly breath isotonic solutions of iodine, baking soda, peroxide, or magnesium chloride to rid yourself of respiratory infections.

In addition to iodine tincture, I also have a couple quarts of veterinary iodine 7% solution. This is the same stuff used to make sure animal scrapes or cuts are disinfected. Also used on cow’s teats, that sort of thing.
Good general purpose topical antiseptic.

Bag of Red Mill Baking Soda
What are you paying for that? $2 a pound or more.
You can get a nice bag at Walmart or Costco much cheaper
for the EXACT same food grade Sodium bicarbonate.
I buy 40 pounds of the EXACT same food grade sodium bicarbonate for about 25 cents a pound at the feed store.
(supplement for dairy cows)
