I don’t have the paper in front of me but a number of wound cleansing strategies were evaluated and subsequent wound infections measured.
The take home message was that everything we were doing was higher risk than plain old soap and water. If you are thoroughly washing out the wound with chlorinated water I wouldn’t argue with your approach.
However, studies show that Silvadene on a laceration is not as effective as triple antiobiotic ointment at preventing infections in humans. The data may be different in Vet studies.

Do what you want but we took the betadine bottles out of the ER rooms to make sure all the docs were complying with new wound treatment data.

The concerns with betadine were delayed healing. A 1993 paper “An appraisal of povdine-iodine wound healing” mentioned the detergent affect did delay some healing for 24 hours. Rinsing with saline after the povidine cleanse negated that problem.
There have been great advances in wound care technology in the last several years, thus the change to the new protocols.
We have a very good wound care specialist in our small town. Not just your cuts, but nasty cancerous and gaping holes, yuck. I need to find out what she is using and if the medications are available to the public. Oh, and she prays over the wound after each treatment.
Until we can get a hold of the new stuff, povidine is still very viable for a preppers cache. I can get povidine by the gallon at the feed store.
The stuff you wound care specialist uses is expensive and wouldn’t store well.
If you want to use Povidine, it was found effective at extreme dilution, literally just drops per gallon.
BUMP
You was told wrong.

Hi 👋👋
I have compared Lidocaine and Orajel side by side on My teeth at the same time and I have to say that the Oragel works better, faster and has a slightly better taste than lidocaine.
Here lately I’ve noticed that the Orajel has been more difficult to find in stock.
Might be worth the trip to Home Depot for a big rubber mallet for heavy duty tranquilizer. Just incase...
